I ordered my 2006 GMC the middle of July. When GM announced the LBZ on Aug 1 I called my dealer to tell him I wanted to wait for the LBZ motor and should we cancel the first one. He said that was no problem the GM hadn't accepted the order anyway. He was just going to leave the original order in and if it didn't come with the LBZ I was under no obligation to buy it and they would just reorder. He said he'd know more around Sept 15. I thought I read somewhere that GM was holding up production on anymore LLY trucks but I can't seem to find that info again. Does anyone know if this is true.

You may want to try www.gminsidenews.com/forums/ (http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/), they have quite a bit of info on new models there.

Thanks ktmrfs that's just the info I was looking for. From the time frame involved it looks like GM is probably not going to be making any more of the 2006 LLY trucks since the LBZ is suppose to start coming off the line Oct 1. From my way of thinking GM probably just put the LLY in the 2006's so the dealers would have a product to show and than start putting the LBZ in all the following orders. I had read that the LBZ was delayed because of supplier issues.

Hello everyone,

Where can I see a color sample of the Blue Granite Metallic paint? Is this a new color for 2006? I was thinking about getting the Midnight Blue/Pewter two tone paint.

Thanks,

Pete..:)

This info is posted, but it is not entirely accurate. I have seen 1500 & 2500 series pickups in the Graystone and Blue Granite, and they are listed as on hold. I ordered a 2500HD last week, it came back to the dealer with an enginge code of LLY, so I canceled and will reorder again this week.

Have you dealer check his paperwork for the eingine codes.

I think the two tone scheme is only available on the 1500 series. NO tutones on the HD series.

I've seen this color scheme for Chevy so I'm assuming that GMC would do the same. It would be nice if they did.

Several things are on constraint at this time. Constraints are listed by allocation group. The allocation groups of interest to this group are CCRWHD (formerly CCREW; 1500HD, 2500HD, & 3500 crew cabs), CE2535 (ext. cab heavys), and CR2535 (reg. cab heavys). So, constraints are not broken down 2500HD vs. 3500, only by cab style.

Being on constraint means that GM limits the number of a certain option/color/engine/whatever that it will accept during a given order week. Constraints are set as a percentage or as an absolute number, depending on which constraint report you're reading. A constraint at 0% would be "on hold".

Constraints change each week, but GM also indicates in the report the expected duration of the constraint. Note that Duramaxes (in pickups) have always been constrained (in varying percentages) since their introduction in 2001. We heard late last year that LLY was going free-flow on crew cabs, but it hasn't happened yet. Interestingly, LLY Duramaxes in Express are a "free-flow" option (non-constraint - GM will accept all requests on allocated orders). In other words, you can get a Duramax on any Expresses that are allocated to you at this time. I'm sure this is because demand for Duramax Expresses is lower than Duramax Silverados, so there's no need to constrain them.

This week's constraint report, for the orders allocated last Thursday, indicates that all three of the above allocation groups are ordering for production the week of Sept. 19. The Duramax option for them all shows to be "LLY".
Duramaxes are currently constrained to 65% of crew cab orders, 30% of extended cabs, and 20% of regular cabs.

On the topic of trucks building now with the LLYs, we have a crew cab that built on Friday and a regular cab that is building this week.

Finally, at a GM meeting I attended on Thursday, we were told that LBZs would go into trucks starting in October. I had previously thought they were scheduled for January production. Since this week's allocations are for the week of Sept. 19 and show LLY, we should be switching over to LBZ orders in 2-4 weeks. Keep in mind that your dealer may not be able to get your order in the same or following week that you give it to him, however, depending on what allocation GM grants him.

When the LBZs do come out, I wonder whether they will be constrained separately from the LLYs or together. It's my guess that both engines will be in the same constraint.

Tutones are on light duty GM pickups only. GMC or Chevy can be had in tutone, if they are built at the Fort Wayne Assembly plant, as it is the only GMT-800 plant that is still painting tutones. And FWA only builds 1/2 ton light duty extended cab and regular cab pickups.

Thanks Tony for explaining the constraints and holds. It's great that some of you that actually work for GM take the time to explain to the rest of us about what really is happening when they are building the trucks we all love. Thank god the days are over when you have to rely on the dealer for any information you get. Without this and other forums we'd all still be in the dark.It looks like I'll have to re- order my truck again when the LBZ option becomes available on the dealer order forms and then hope for the best as to when I will actually get the truck.

Thanks, Coastman. Actually I do work for a dealer - Terry Lee Chevrolet in Cincinnati, OH. I handle our commercial sales and also some retail truck sales. If anyone in the SW Ohio area is looking for a Duramax, I'd be happy to help.
I also have a Duramax and a Z28 for my personal vehicles.

My experience with dealers in the past has usually been that they tell you what they think you want to hear. I'm glad that you have started to change that perception. With all the information available now I'm sure that selling has changed considerably. With informed buyers it would have to. Thanks again Tony

I just noticed today that we now know when our first LBZ is building. An order that was placed last Tuesday with the LLY option was changed (by GM) on Friday to LBZ. The target production week is still the week of 9/26.
So, we should have our first LBZ here on the ground by the second week of October. It will be a Victory Red crew short LT1.
