just wondering what everyone is using to install and remove the ati super damper. is there a kit that does all? i know theres a kit that ati sells, but does that install and remove it too?

I'm pretty sure it does both

Make sure the ATI kit has the correct size to fit the crank treads! It's a odd size for the installers. So Cal sells a kit with the correct treads if ATI doesn't. Jeff

we use the socal kit to install it, like sting said, finding the right adapter to thread into the drank ins't easy to find. To remove it, just use a standard "T" bar puller, and use 2 3/8 x 4" long fine thread bolts and pull it off.

Take it to a machine shop and have the hole opened up slightly. The ones I got from Guy were way to tight!

The press fit is to help make the damper one with the crank, so if you are opening the hole up how is it not compromising the effectiveness of the damper?

The press fit on the ATI Super balancer as shipped for a Duramax is way to tight. They are mis-made plain and simple, and they tear up the end of the crankshaft and that is not how it should be done! The bolt in the end of the crankshaft will hold fine and there is no reason to have it fit as they do from the aftermarket.

why were all the small and big block chevy's press fit? im not trying to be smart assy here just curious. i never had any problems installing or removing the balancers on my small blocks. i would think that you would want a .001 or so press for a snug fit to keep it from walking and charring. then again if the snub face it seats against is supposed to be the harmonic transfer it might not need press.

Mine fit tight as a b$%ch when I got it. I was told to take .002 out to make it fit well. It still fits snug but before it was nearly impossible.
