The he** does this mean? Forgive me, I have never been to the track. I found one here local and this is the class for diesels.
What is heads up? 4 tenths? Pro Tree?:o:

On a "Sportsman Tree", there are 3 large amber lights. The top one goes, then the middle one, then the bottom, then green! The lights are 0.500 seconds apart.

On a ".400 Pro Tree", all three amber lights go off at the same time, then 0.400 seconds later the green comes on. This is what Top Fuel and other fast classes run.

There is a .500 Pro also.

nothing like getting a response from my favorite lady on the board!:)
I understand now, thanks for the explanation.
Do you have any tips or pointers for a newbie? We're workin 7 12s right now but hopefully sometime soon, I'll be able to head up to the track for my first time.

Well I'm still learning this auto stuff

I put it in 4 Hi, start building boost and hold it about 2k, when I see the first yellow I floor it and leave on the 3rd yellow :D

Good luck & have fun

I have found it is harder to launch Big Blue then Blue Meanie):h

05LLY2500HD: On your tree "Heads up" 4 tenths Pro Tree Class you just let go of the brake and go WOT a soon as you see the three yellows. Dont wait any longer for the green because the guy beside you is long gone...

even if I redlight, my et will still be recorded, correct?

Yes. Reaction time has nothing to do with your 1/4 mile time

You won't do a redlight with a pro tree... Very hard to do unless you're on crack OR you're the 6,000,000 dollars man (geez what you could buy with 6 mil then) ):h

My local dragstrip uses a pro tree. I redlight from time to time but that a sign that my left leg is not strong enough to hold the brake and/or I'm making way too much boost :ro)

As for your ET, you can wait t'il Christmas at the green light and still do 12.50 sec. Usually you try to keep your reaction time under your ET ;)

On a .400 or .500? Try staging shallower, barely flicker the second yellow.

Mark was on a .500 pro tree.

He had a couple of bye runs leading to the final round and was loaded for goat hunting.

Staging depth makes a big difference on pro trees.

But it's not a "real" red light like the one you can do on a sportman tree by anticipating the green too much. Unless you have bionic vision and see the starters fingers or have bionic reflexes

The Terminator would do good too but watch out if he looses... he'll be back :ro)

W/ fast trucks, lots of boost and go juice, slicks and get a little toooo far into the lights u can/will redlight on a .5 protree.

The starter is behind the drivers and couldn't watch my finger flip the switch.

Hey 05, what track is having that? Did you know Lubbock has been running diesel races?

A few times I've been staged with what was supposed to be a Sportsman tree, and suddenly all three come on. SURPRISE!!! PRO TREE!! You know if you are doing it right if your R/T stays same when you get an accidental pro tree. Last event it happened and I KILLED Ralph on R/T. :D

For readers who are not familiar with drag racing:

Normally you are going to be Sportsman Tree. You stare intently at the 3rd amber. Try to turn it on with your mind. Get tunnel vision. The instant you see light, HIT IT! For most people in a 13-11 second car, this will net a .550-.600 R/T when staged shallow.

 Or when you get a different one every time you go up! IRP was doing that to me on a ET Bracket day. It makes it tough to practice the tree!

West Texas Raceway Park, 16 miles west of Odessa. I'll have to look into Lubbock, thanks.
