I am seeing what everyones thoughts are on a diesel daily driver other than a Dmax for good mileage since I drive 80 miles or so round trip daily for work. I dont want to spend a lot and need room for the family. I would like a CCSB but that wont happen with a Dmax and I dont want to drive a CCLB daily. I hate not buying american vehicles but am really interested in a 06 VW Jetta TDI. Any thoughts?

I know a couple of people who have Jetta TDI VWs. They really like them. Not real roomy, but Plenty comfortable for a family of 4 to ride around in. They get great fuel milage. The TDIs seem more reliable than the gas Jettas. The gas jettas run great but have a few gremlins in the electrical system.
Might want to look into if its OK using USLD fuel in it. I have heard you should use an additive like Power service or Opti lube to keep the IP happy on the older TDI.

we have an 05.5 jetta tdi package 2 with the DSG transmission and we really love it, more pep than most 4 cylinder econemy cars and it gets better mileage. They are pretty comfortable also. For 80 miles a day I would say the jetta tdi would be your best bet. we drive ours 60-65 miles a day and average anywhere from 35-50 mpg depending on the type of driving and what the weather is like(only in the 35 range in the winter with winter diesel) summer should be in the 50+/- range

Does anyone have info on the Jeep Liberty's or Cherokee diesels? I know they are Mercedes engines but I havnt heard if they are worth a crap.

The grand cherokee has a 3.0L Mercedes engine the liberty has a 2.8L VM Motori engine. I personally have no experience with either, but I would go for the grand cherokee if I had to choose one. Before the Liberty I have never heard of VM Motori. The grand cherokee should be capable of close to 25 mpg and the liberty should be capable of close to 30mpg, from my research of them anyways. The grand cherokee you can get much more loaded than the liberty, but they are harder to find and you pay quite a bit for them.
