: Edge Evo Race Q's and Comments
ryeguy 03-10-2011, 12:07 PM Hi guys,
After months of reading opinions and agonizing over a choice, I finally bit the bullet, bought and installed the Edge Evo Race (through Alligator) and installed a stock LLY exhaust to get rid of the DPF.
Comments: love it! Everything seems okay even with the stock exhaust (haven't towed yet, though), and I like keeping the truck uber-quiet with the increase in power.
Q's:
1.) Is there a way to display the transmission temperature (and possibly other stat's) in metric? A few of us crazy Canucks would likely appreciate this trivial update. I know I would.
2.) Is there a way to inverse the display when driving at night? I like a really dark dash and turn down the dash lights as dim as possible (and wish you could make it dimmer without going dark). This makes the Edge display rather bright. Simply inverting the green/black display would be ideal. Again (as a software developer) I expect this should be trivial but doesn't seem to be available as an option.
3.) I also have the Transgo Jr. kit installed. Otherwise, the truck is stock. I tried level 4 once (for 20 minutes) but wasn't keen on the engine sound and it seemed to depower a lot between shifts, so went back to level 2: economy / tow setting. Love the turbo braking. But I'm not seeing any gains in economy and I've made a point of keeping my foot out of it. What's a safe level to run at to maximize economy? I think I read that the turbo braking is only available at level 2? What's a max safe setting when I do want to "play"?
4.) Thoughts on the EGR blocker plate in cold winter weather?? How will it affect warm-up?
Thanks,

CRASHNBURN 03-10-2011, 03:38 PM Hi guys,

This makes the Edge display rather bright. Simply inverting the green/black display would be ideal. Again (as a software developer) I expect this should be trivial but doesn't seem to be available as an option. Its been a while since I have ran the regular evolution, but there is a why to turn down the brightness, but not just a flip night to day option.
4.) Thoughts on the EGR blocker plate in cold winter weather?? How will it affect warm-up? I would put in the blocking plate just for being better for the engine. I am in mn & run it no problems.
Thanks,

Have a good one. Comments in red.
ryeguy 03-10-2011, 08:26 PM I have the Evo Race to delete the DPF.
I have hand-calculated every tank for as long as I can remember.
ryanryan 03-10-2011, 08:41 PM Q's:
1.) Is there a way to display the transmission temperature (and possibly other stat's) in metric? A few of us crazy Canucks would likely appreciate this trivial update. I know I would. I'm sure you're talking about the Evo display, and no I don't think there is a way.....but you do know you can have the trans temp on your DIC in C or F, right?
2.) Is there a way to inverse the display when driving at night? I like a really dark dash and turn down the dash lights as dim as possible (and wish you could make it dimmer without going dark). This makes the Edge display rather bright. Simply inverting the green/black display would be ideal. Again (as a software developer) I expect this should be trivial but doesn't seem to be available as an option. Like it was said above, to my knowledge there is no quick flip setting(I agree, it would have been nice). You can do it through the settings but that would be a PITA to do every time.
I would keep it on Level 3 or below if you plan on being beating on it a bit(including racing). If you're gonna just play around a little bit, you'll be ok to go to Level 4, maybe Level 5 if you have the balls!!! It will defuel on the shifts the higher you go, and it is a good thing because that will help save the trans. Usually the rule of thumb is, for city driving - higher power level = better economy, and for highway driving - lower power level = better fuel economy. Figure out how you're gonna be driving it and base it off that "rule". And yes, turbo brake on Level 2 only.
4.) Thoughts on the EGR blocker plate in cold winter weather?? How will it affect warm-up? The Edge will command the EGR to stay closed but it can be forced open under high-boost conditions. I personally never worried about it since I've read about of much of a pain in the ass it is to install. I don't think it would affect warm-up much since the EGT's on a cold diesel are very low....and since there won't be any boost when it's warming up, it will be closed via the Edge programming, so it would be the same as having a plate installed(when it's at idle or elevated idle).
Thanks,

^^^Hope this helps!^^^ :)
ryeguy 03-11-2011, 12:29 PM Ryanryan: thanks.
1.) Yeah, I'm aware that the DIC can show trans temp, it'd just be nice to leave it on the monitor in celcius (right now I have it on display, but in F).
2.) That's too bad, it'd sure be nice and useful (and easy to do) to invert the display.
3.) Thanks. It's generally highway driving. I like the turbo brake so much, it'll likely stay on level 2 unless I'm in the city and want to mess with some 'Stang owner's mind or something. :)
4.) Thanks, I'll have a look at it and if it looks doable then I'll install it.

bikerdan 03-19-2011, 08:43 PM You do know you can dim it by pushing the down arrow?
ryeguy 05-03-2011, 03:20 PM As a follow-up, I did see a gain in economy on long drives, and certainly as advertised, which is good.
I have played with the down arrow, but the difference between off and dimmest is huge. Just like the dash, I want it dimmer before off.
Thanks.
