05 Chevy Dually!! Putting an AFE intake and AFE 4" exhaust on it. What programmer is the best for pulling, fuel mileage, and HP!? Thinking Bully Dog or Edge w/Attitude. What is better!?

EFILive or PPE hands down. And don't forget to upgrade your turbo mouthpeice, that's the weak link in your intake system

EFIlive all the way .... if you buy the hand held , shortly thereafter you will wish you bought the EFIlive.
the more you change the way that engine breaths the more you need to customize programming and shut off CEL's etc.

I faced this question a few weeks ago and though I'd share with you what Route I chose.

EFI is the best..... A little expensive and I'm afraid of working the programs my self.

I was looking at the PPE economy, and the Edge Evolution. I went with the Evolution because of the EGT gauge and the ability to monitor so may differant engine functions. I do like the EVO a lot. In the back of my mind I still wonder if the PPE would have given me better ecconomy or been better for the engine/tranny.

After I bought the Edge I read that you could buy a EFI live preprogramed ECM for a reasonable price. 1,2, or 5 levels available. you can also send in your own ECM for programming. If I was to do it over again I would buy a seperate EGT gauge and a ECM with 2 levels (towing,ecconomy/sport)

I'm thinking in a few months, I may just get a EFI Live 2 program ECM and keep the EVO for the gauges.

Good luck.

To expand on what woodtic said EFI is available several ways, you can-
1)Order a pretuned ECM from someone like duramaxtuner.com. Then you plug the ECM into your truck and your done. About $500 for this option.
2)Buy an EFI V2 scanner and purchase tunes online, then load into your trucks ECM. About $500-$800 for the scanner plus cost of tunes
3)Buy EFI software and scanner and write your own tunes. Big drawback would be the risk of an owner with no/low experiance with EFI writing tunes. It would be easy to screw something up. Over $1,000 for all needed parts plus laptop.
What is gonna be the primary purpose of your truck, towing, roadtrips, daily driver?

i would say efi live and buy tunes. dmax store offers a good combo if you and a buddy wanna go in on it and your gonna need gauges if your gonna run any big tunes i would suggest the edge insight that way you can control your tunes through that

Efi live , Just got my money back for my ppe that fried my ecm when going back to stock.PPE cost me a lot of money (tow bill , truck down time , had to reprogram my ecm).PPE customer service sucks and they don't stand behind their products. So remember , if you go with PPE and you have a problem you are on your own and you are out your own cash if their programmer screws your truck up.

its all depends on how big you wanna go. everyone here believe efilive if the best out there and i do believe it is for a lot of people but if a box or a programmer is good enough for you then go that way and you can resell it and get some of your money back. if you took your truck to someone and got it tuned in order to get some of the money back by selling it you would have to get another ecm. really what i am trying to say is everyone has there own opinion and needs

I tried PPE, i didnt get the mileage gains that was promised. I bought it from a vendor and not PPE. When I called PPE to get help, they tried at first but when the problem wouldnt get fixed, they directed me to the vendor I purchased it from (basically, go away, we can no longer help you). The programming didnt kick in until >1800 rpm's...so you wouldn't feel it until way up in speed. In short, wasn't happy.

Bought EFI from duramaxtuner and the only regret was that I didnt get it sooner. If price is a problem, buy the pre-programmed ECM. No guess work, drop it in, order the switch and get 5 programs....the choices of programming are yours.....not just levels 1 -5 with other programs, you wont have to go under level 2 if you want to tow...play with the levels to find out which one gets you back to regular mileage, get close with the speedo....

so far with EFI I got a heavy tow tune, a light tow tune, mileage, 100 hp and valet. Still working on numbers but my mileage is averaging 17 city. Still cant get a reliable number for the hiway (too many coastal winds working for me and against me). I was able to change the "oil change light" to 15K (I use amsoil with dual filtration and that when i need to check the oil for the first time)...corrected the speedo to gps numbers and corrected the fuel gauge (I used to have an 8 gallons left when the light came on, now its 3). I am sure that there is still some mileage left in the tuning. I just have to take it slow.
