: LMM: Installed Duramaxtuner DSP5 ecm WOW!
himaster59 03-06-2011, 03:18 PM I just had to let everyone know how great this setup is. Nick is a great guy to deal with and will help when you don't know what you are doing to get things right. I also installed the diamond eye down pipe, egr blocker plate and 4" SS MBRP down pipe back exhaust. Wow, what a difference it has made. So much more drivable and sounds more like a truck now with the new exhaust. Now I just need to drive it for a while to see how the mileage goes, although this is not the reason for ding this. I was tired of this darn thing going into regeneration mode!
Tanc Crusher 03-06-2011, 03:52 PM Congrats on your new mods. Keep us informed how they go.

PigGuy 03-06-2011, 08:55 PM I"m thinking about doing the same thing from them. Did you go with their 5 levels or did you have them build tunes custom for you? I'd love to hear what you continue to think about the set up. Thanks
Tanc Crusher 03-07-2011, 04:58 PM All depends on what you have. I have the standard DSP5 tune that is maxed out which will hold well if your Allison is built for it. If stock then he has a nice DSP5 that is mostly transmission safe. The nice thing about EFILive is the scripting ability and can quickly have a tune setup.

I went the Nick's package as I still have a stock turbo and stock trans. I can see the trans being built shortly though after talking with Nick and telling me to try the other levels to make sure they work. Boy do they work! It will be hard to keep it off the race tune and the turbo brake is amazing in the tow tunes. He really knows how to wake up these motors. I would recommend his tuning to anyone I talk to. Mike
Tanc Crusher 03-07-2011, 05:53 PM I doubt it was to custom wise. More of a generic set I say. But still love it. Waiting to order twins and injectors for spring and then some more tuning which be more custom i say.

PigGuy 03-19-2011, 06:25 PM How hard is installing the DSP5 switch?
himaster59 03-19-2011, 06:37 PM How hard is installing the DSP5 switch?
The switch is not bad to install. You have two wires that go to the ecm wiring harness connector and then just find where you want the switch to be mounted. Nick@Duramaxtuner.com sends complete instructions by e-mail on how and where to install the wires for the switch to the ecm after your order has been made.:)
PigGuy 03-19-2011, 06:53 PM Great, thanks for the info!
plumber1 03-25-2011, 08:37 PM let me know how you like it i am thinking about the same thing what kind of mileage are you getting
Dirtymaxlmm 03-25-2011, 09:53 PM does the ecm come programed with dpf delete?
himaster59 03-26-2011, 10:32 AM let me know how you like it i am thinking about the same thing what kind of mileage are you getting
I wish I had made the change a long time ago. It runs great and is real fun to drive. On fuel mileage I just filled up and got 19 mpg (hand calculated), but I can't keep my foot out of it still. When I learn some self control when driving with this new found power It will do even better. Not unhappy with 19 mpg the way i'm driving the truck though.:D
himaster59 03-26-2011, 10:37 AM does the ecm come programed with dpf delete?
Yes it does come programmed this way. Nick will do his basic tunes or custom tunes. Just contact him and he will do what you want or need. Nick is great to work with!
jackh 04-11-2011, 04:13 PM can you maintain your warranty with the new ECM? i have an old quadzilla stealth II that im kind of tired of, id like to try nicks setup for stock trans and stock turbo. ive read nothing but great things about it, im just concerned about my warranty.

No! They will still be able to tell that you have ran a non stock tune in the truck. There are a number of ways to tell. ie: number of regens with the mileage shown, torque values are stored, if they have to pull the engine apart there will be signs of non stock tunes used also. It will also depend on your dealer and what needs to be warrantied. I made the decision to do the mods and will pay if it breaks. I love the way the truck runs now and will not look back.:D

In his Signature he list his an LBZ Classic so no DPF. Unless his Sig is not up to date or posted in the wrong section. Anyways the LBZ ECM is said not to record the last 10 calibration changes so for the most part no. But I would say there are some tell tale signs. Unless you have a built Allison drive it with care. If running a high HP tune watch WOT wide open throttle in 4th on up gears as well up and down shift of those gears.

My bad! I thought I read on here that they could tell by looking at the ecm on the 06/07 classic models also. Thank you for setting things straight. Mike
Tanc Crusher 04-11-2011, 08:14 PM Some post say it does record others say no. Not seen anything that is spelled out.

BK Tool 04-11-2011, 08:28 PM Doesn't the TCM record torque input and can't be cleared?
Tanc Crusher 04-11-2011, 08:31 PM I do know that started in the 2009 and 2010 TCM. Not sure on the ones before that.

RedLMM 04-13-2011, 06:44 AM nick is the man he tuned my truck when i was on stock charger and sticks..do 60 overs and a cheetah and went with dsp5 couldnt be happier..having a hard time keeping it on the small tune.:D
jwpmel 04-14-2011, 10:03 PM I have to get on the ban wagon too about Duramaxtuner.com. Nicks tune is awesome so far and Bob....Bob and his patients were second to none during my purchase. Here's my story....I ordered my DSP5, ECM and installed it with the included instructions in now time. I went to start the truck and no turbo unless I hammered it. I originally thought the issue was the EGR plate not being installed yet. Next day I installed the plate(what a pain in the azz) but still had the same problem. I contacted Bob and he overnighted another ECM, yes overnighted at no charge to me. I installed the new one and same issue. I contacted them and after there assistance in trouble shooting I found the issue. The idiot that owned the truck before me put one of those ebay modules in the truck that guaranteeing more power with better fuel mileage and caused all of my problems with the upgraded ECM.
I wanted everyone in this forum to know the patients and the first rate customer service these guys offer. If you are looking for a company this is it. If you are on the fence with whether you should buy this type of set up let me tell you not to worry.
himaster59 04-17-2011, 10:04 AM Update on the new mods. Just came back from a 676 mile trip and used 31 gallons of fuel. Filled before I left and filled when I returned at same station and pump. Cruise was set on 70 for most of the trip. I'm very happy with the results.
Kappa9012 05-13-2011, 06:27 PM what kind of mileage did you truck get before the tunes?

Nice wha tune was it on?
himaster59 05-14-2011, 05:46 PM what kind of mileage did you truck get before the tunes?
I always got good mileage before the mods in my opinion. In the summer I would get 20 mpg with the cruise set at 65 mph.
himaster59 05-14-2011, 05:48 PM Nice what tune was it on?
I leave it on number 4 most of the time. It is real fun to drive on this setting.
8.1HD 11-07-2011, 10:56 AM What all is needed to be done to install the new ECM? I know the dsp switch has to be wired in and the ECMs must be swapped out. After that is it just start and go? No injector rate learn that I have read about?
