Well I can only see one photo, but congratulations! You pulled a trailer with a quite large frontal area and achieved 10 mpg, you should be happy.

When it weighs 15k you will still get 10

Yup, these guys are right. I have a similar size/weight trailer (pics below). I got ~18 or so going to get it (nearly all freeway, some traffic and city). Then I got about 11mpg coming home with it empty but rolling pretty slow. I got about 10mpg with my 'vette, lots of wheels/tires and tools in it but I was rolling a lot faster. I got about 11 the whole way to/from Glamis (~1500mi round trip) with my sand car, a friends lifted golf cart, a few sets of paddles (for my car and a friend's), and tons of tools (big generator, compressor, 220V welder) going pretty fast but 100% pure highway driving.

yea i learned a big lesson on wind resistance I towed many trailers standard height and got great fuel milage but that sucker was very tall and was terrible with wind

I tow a 20000# three axle fifth wheel trailer With my 2011 3500HD crew cab long bed 4X4 DRW LTZ. on a 2080 mile trip I got 9.33 MPG overall. The trip resulted in a 6000 foot drop in altitude. I will be going back next month. Then I'll see how it does going uphill.

Wow, good luck going up. This should be interesting. Be sure to post some results.

I recently bought an lml to pull a cattle trailer hauling baby calves from washington to idaho. The truck pulls a 28 foot trailer that is double decked so we can put 120 calves on it. The milage after 4000 miles of hauling is 10.8. Which is better than I had expected but the def consumption is killing us. This pickup burns a little over 2 gallons every 1,000 miles. Hopefully it gets better the driver loves the truck and loves the exhuast brake most of all. This pickup will have 100,000 miles on it before 2012 so I will keep you in the loop as we get more miles.

The DEF consumption is killing you?

2 gals / 1000miles ?

2 gals is what $10-$15?

Yes $10-$15 a trip. Makes 3 trips a week. Average of $12.50 a trip is $1950 a year. I am not saying its a deal breaker but it is definatly an expense you have to weigh. Thats almost 2 sets of tires you are giving to the def makers.

Just finished a 3200 mile pull with my Tugboat on a trailer, from Michigan to lower Florida and back... 11,000 pounds and 11' 8" tall with big flat windows on the pilot house... 10.5 mpg going and 11.0 coming back...

I saw somewhere on this forum that some Pilot/Flying J truck stops are selling DEF from a pump for about $3.00 a gallon. I expect this will become more common soon.

At 10.8 mpg you're using 1000/10.8 = 92.5 gal diesel per 1000 miles.

Def and diesel are similar price per gallon.

lets pretend its 94.5 gallons of diesel.

New mileage is 1000/94.5 = 10.6 mpg (diesel and def combined:))

I, too, have a 30' tag with extra height, and I wish it was std. height. It's so bad in wind that I had to get a weight distribution hitch. I covered 3,000 miles in 3 days pulling the 30', and I averaged 10.8 MPG for the trip. I only used 2.5 gal. of DEF for the trip. I was empty going and had a 3,400 lb. car coming back. I pulled our 48' gooseneck with extra height and 2 cars (18,000 lb trailer and cars) to Dallas and back (750 miles) and I averaged 9.5 MPG going. My mileage coming back was just over 8 unloaded, but that was from a 25-30 MPH head wind.

I'm paying $5.20 a gallon for DEF and am using a gallon per 900 miles empty 600 miles pulling 20,000 pounds. That works out to $.0052 a mile empty and $.0086 a mile loaded. Having the horsepower, torque, exhaust brake and service brakes this truck gives me is worh every penny.

I usually pull my 15000# fifth wheel at about 60 or so. Last pull was 11.4. But I have less than 3000 miles. II look for it to get better. My old 04 got about 11.5 to 12, same trailer. I'm in the ball park.

I'm getting between 10.5-11.5 mpg towing my 12,000 lb 5th wheel. It tows like a dream. I expected slightly better mileage, but I am not complaining a bit. Combined city/hwy driving while not towing the camper I get around 15 or so.

I got 9-15mpg with a 8,000lb bumper pull & 8-13mpg with my 11,000lb 5th wheel.

I have been between 10 and 16, however mine is a 20 tandem axle flatbed, best mileage with and 89 Camaro and worst with a 94 F-150 on winter fuel.
