: Recall on power extendind mirrors?
Kappa9012 08-18-2005, 04:10 PM I have a problem with my drivers side mirror. At any kind of speed at all the damn glass begins to rattle enough that I can't even see out of it. I heard there was a recall, and wondered if anyone could verify, or if anyone else had this problem?
dmax lover 08-18-2005, 04:24 PM There is another forum that focuses on body issues, etc. (look for "Exterior") Look over there and you will find some info/solutions. One guy put some foam behind the glass to stabilize it - mine are fine (for now).
I don't believe there is a recall - there is a TSB that informs techs that individual replacement parts are now available for this mirror and to not replace the entire unit if there are issues with the motor, etc.

GTA23109a 08-18-2005, 05:01 PM I have the same issues with both mirrors. One as so bad I took it in and the jackoff stealer tried to accuse me of hitting something with it!!! IF someone has a copy of the bulletin that'd be great . . . so I can shove it up that Censored nose.
Denali02 08-18-2005, 07:17 PM My rubber boot was torn so the dealer replaced the entire assembly. Now it shakes!!!!
KTDURAMAX 08-18-2005, 07:52 PM Had the same thing on the right side. The stealer replaced the whole unit and was fine for about a whole 3 months. I think the foam idea is MY next step.
michael nelson 08-18-2005, 08:07 PM both mine do the same thing I remember someone saying It Is from the wind via the bug deflector???
Reineke 08-18-2005, 10:22 PM The key for me is to move it around. Sometimes the smallest adjustment works great. When I got my truck back after my parents had it for 3 weeks, it shook so bad that I thought it would fall out. It took about 800 miles of tweaking here and there, now it doesn't move at all. The passenger side has always been ok.
gtoguy1967 08-19-2005, 04:27 PM had mine replaced at the dealer , they put a hole new one on there and it does it as well. Passenger sid eseems to be ok though.
Cummin_Stroke_this_Dmax 08-19-2005, 05:04 PM both mine do the same thing I remember someone saying It Is from the wind via the bug deflector???
Mine does it and I don't have a bug deflector. Tell them that.
newbiegirl 08-19-2005, 08:02 PM both mine do the same thing I remember someone saying It Is from the wind via the bug deflector???
Yep - that is what they told me - Bug deflector causes it.
michael nelson 08-19-2005, 08:09 PM so whats the real story? I bought my bug deflector from the stealer also so isnt it their fault! hey if they sold me a water pump that made my engine overheat?....etc....

Right you are... And away this thread goes to there...
72&04HD 08-20-2005, 08:00 PM i dunno, i thought it was just normal with power extended mirrors since they are not as solidilly mounted
wwpiga 08-21-2005, 12:01 AM My drivers side was loose and the dealer replaced it. No questions asked.
DZL Man 08-22-2005, 12:09 PM My rubber boot was torn so the dealer replaced the entire assembly. Now it shakes!!!!
I feel your pain, I went through the same thing. Both of mine tore (High PSI car washes I think) and now they shake.
duramaxdavid 10-07-2005, 11:50 PM I guess im lucky none of mine shake.
michael nelson 10-08-2005, 12:12 AM damn it some guy says his dont shake and no sig.........pisses me off! see avatar-
C.A.P 10-08-2005, 12:29 AM had both moters done on mine but no shaking YET!!!!!!!!
ddp127 10-08-2005, 02:35 AM Are ya'll saying that the mirrors themselves shake, the whole unit? Or just the mirror glass? My drivers side mirror glass shakes running down the road. It's not really bad, just a bit of an annoyance sometimes. (I guess it depends on what kind of mood I'm in if it sucks or if it's OK:blahblah: ).
gm-man 10-15-2005, 01:26 PM my mirrors rattle as well, definetly a design issue and GM won't do anything about it most likely.
gardnerteam 10-15-2005, 01:48 PM I feel for all of you. Should have listened to the several of us who had lengthy experience with the Powervision mirror before GM made it an option. It was junk then and sounds like it is still junk now. Powervision has a too small too soft brass gear which historically wore out with a year or two of normal use, but they ALWAYS denied us warrantly, saying the mirrors were slapped by a tree, or other mirror or some such crap. Powervision as a company was in trouble with the mirror when they got GM to buy the crap and the rest is history. GM dealer is telling you what he is being told by GM who is being told by Powervision no gearee, no waranty. Most of us who had experience with these warned everybody on both sites when GM picked it up. I remember one person specifically saying "No problem, GM will handle it" Yea, just like they started out handling 01 injector warranties. Do your self a favor - get a better mirror and avoid the hassle.
DMax in Alaska 10-15-2005, 02:07 PM Yep - that is what they told me - Bug deflector causes it.
Knock on wood...I have the High Profile Bug Deflector (HD Hood) and my mirrors are solid so far after 13K mikes on Alaska roads. Now you want to talk about wipers lifting from the Bug Deflector...Geez
sidro 10-15-2005, 02:18 PM I noticed my mirror glass shakes on the passenger side just the top mirror tho but I have those vertical camper mirrors.
toofast2catch02 10-17-2005, 07:52 AM On mine, just the glass shakes on both sides, but if you adjust the mirror just a slight bit, it will go away, for a few minutes. The best the I can figure is that there is too much slop in the worm gears that adjust the mirror glass. I notified the dealer about it and they told me that GM knows about it, but there is no fix for it yet. I just make them put it as a job request for mirror shake, every time it go to the dealer, no matter what for. I wish I would have gotten the standard mirrors.
