Does anyone know what the price of Diesel is in Tijuana???

My parents live in San Diego and I have a 60 gallon aux tank on my truck, might be worth my while to pay them a monthly visit if I can buy it cheaper across the border.

What is the Spanish word for "diesel?" Don't want to fill up from the gas pump by mistake . . .

I don't know if this is still true or not, but when I lived in San Diego a friend told me that you better have good prefilters because they have alot of dirt in the fuel. Hopefully that isn't the case now.

If the diesel is the same quality as the gas ,you will be sorry.

I used to run a sportfishing boat and we would take it to to Cancun for the sailfish season. When we were in Cancun, we had to carry our own oil for oil changes, and would have to carry double the amount for all of the sulphur in the fuel. I would do an oil change almost every 65-80 engine hours while down there vs. 100-110 hrs in the US.
The exhaust even had a different odor to it...
I doubt it is worth it, unless you HAD to use it..

I wouldnt put that crap in my truck even if they were selling it at $0.01/gal. Probably is dirty, has water and/or a mixture of diesel and gas in the underground tank. Next thing you know your stuck on some dirt road and the federales start haressing you. Then you will be breaking out your wallet to pay them off so they dont tow your truck, plant some drugs/roids in your truck and throw you into a TJ jail.

Stay out of TJ, Mexico.

Diesel in Tj is about 1.79 a gallon. As far as using it I havent had a problem in over a year. Fill up and enjoy the savings when you can. as far as contaminants it can happen there as well as here. And for people just bad mouthing places they dont no **** about. Then that just their ignorance.

So let me get this straight, people are thinking of driving 30 minutes to Mexico, from San Diego, purchasing Mexican insurance to cross the border, wait two hours in line to get back across, then 30 minutes back - all to save a buck a gallon or aprox. $30.00, less the fuel you use going down and back.
Actually less sice you will have at least a quarter tank in before you fuel up.
Yep, sure seems like a HUGE cost savings to me.

Well, if the only reason your going down there is to buy cheep fuel then no there is no savings. I however go there for buisness, and pleasure so if your there for other things why not take advantage of the savings. I for instance will fill up before I leave. So yes there are savings depending on why you went in the first place.

Well my truck holds 86 gallons, and to fill it up here it will cost $3.09 a gallon, which totals $265.74, I can drive across the border at TJ after buying my mexican insurance and fill er up for $153.94, I'll be saving over a hundred bucks, plus getting to see my folks who live in Bonita...
I have been over the border many, many times and the most I ever had to wait was about 45 minutes...Most times I cross around 11 am to 2 p.m. and there is no wait at all.
By the way if you know where I can get Diesel at $2.79 a gallon in my area, I would sure be interested.

My buddy MANNY goes to TJ at least 1 to 2 times a week and he told me the last 3 times he put Pemex in his truck (2003 Avalanch) it ran like ****.he works in SanDeigo as a union pipe fitter and they go to TJ for the whores. I have known him for 10 years and he is a Chicano so he has no axx to grind . here of late he won't even take the truck across the border because the mexican police kept stopping him and takeing between $50.00 and $100.00 for traffic fines, he has to pay directly to them in cash .now they park on the US side and take a mexican taxie. they like a place called Adelita's .

...and if you take a tanker truck down, just think how much you could save.

For the AVERAGE truck, just going down for fuel is stupid. Now if your going down for hoe's or family or both and have to fill up anyway, sure go for it. But to do it to save a buck it's just nuts.
Besides the safety issue, and I have been down plenty of times also, and get hustled on a regular basis, it aint worth it.
You may be lucky at 45min, but there are no guarantees - like these people said about their 3 hr wait.

Taking a nice truck into Mexico is like runway model walking down the halls of a prison - everyone wants what you have and will find a way to get it.

well, if your getting hustled over in Mexico, its probably because you let yourself get hustled. Been there many times, almost three times a week, never once have I had any problem what so ever with anyone. Again, dont make yourself an easy target. Keep to yourself, remember you are a tourist, and dont expect to get away with anything you cant get away with in the states. Alot of gringos think they can go to Mex and do as they please, and act as they please, THIS IS NOT THE CASE, Respect the people they will respect you beck. I must say the Mexican people I have come across their are some of the most friendly I have ever met. Even amongst the most corrupt LOL

"Mexico has recently passed Colombia as the #1 country for kidnapping.....anyone in a nice car or clothes can be grabbed. "
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,166030,00.html

But in Mexico, a kidnapping occurs every six hours on average. Mexico is now second only to war-torn Colombia in the number of annual kidnappings. While few victims are killed, few perpetrators in this thriving multimillion-dollar industry are ever caught.

No argument here, I just want people to be WELL informed. Too many Americans think going to Mexico is like taking a trip to Disney land. Just be informed where you are going, it's not as simple as pulling up to a pump and buying cheap fuel.
Different country, different rules - buyer beware.

been fillin up in Mex for a while now, no problems, never have and dont see any coming. I've lived ten minutes from the border for 15 years and have never had any negative incident on Mexican soil. I have seen others involved in accidents and such, and have seen Mexican officials handle it very well, if not better than In USA. Dont get me wrong, USA is far superior in mostly everything, but dont knock a country that all you know about is whats in the news. Have you tuned to CNN and seen how crappy USA has been lately... JUst food for thought.

See this post for my experience and conclusions regarding Mex diesel. I have had a lot more experience with gas. I never noticed any problems with the fuel but every now and then I would get a load of crap (not fuel), mostly rust particles. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24250

I was in Italy over 15 years ago, and the police in Rome on the street had automatic weapons.

And if you want to stay away from places with corruption, suggest you avoid New Jersey, Maryland, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York. Especially if you are a gun owner traveling through the state on your way to a hunting trip.

There's more to Mexico that just TJ. I live near San Luis Rio Colorado Sonora, and have been for a looong time. Get over it, driving down Sunset Blvd is sometimes more risky that going over to your local Mexican Pemex station ever will be. Trouble will come to those looking for trouble. You know the laws, follow them, if you are breaking the laws, expect to be busted, and busted hard, especially if you are a tourist. It just works that way.

I got a plan, take 2, 55 gallon drums with me and leave them at my folks, go into T.J. and fill up my 60 gallon aux tank, go back to my folks and siphon it into one of the 55 gallon drums, go back and do it again, bring back the two drums and build a rack for them in my garage. I'll have almost 5 months of fuel for about $350.00.
I just may be on to something here, especially if we start to see the predicted 30 cent increase because of the hurricane about to hit the gullf states.
