I just had my instrument panel and 4x4/light panel out of the dash. After i put it all back together i get a check engine light. I think it may just be something caused from having the instrument panel out. While it was out i drove the truck for about 20 minutes. I don't know if that would make a difference but you never know. I guess i should probable find out what the code is for before i reset it. Can i use the check engine light and turning on and off the ignition to find out the code or do i have to get it plugged in?

Thanks in advance for your help.

PS I had the dash apart looking for an annoying rattle. I was looking for it myself because i figured that i had created it while taking my consul out and putting the third seat in. I found the rattle and i had created it myself. Now i am dealing with the check engine light.

While we're waiting for someone more knowledgeable than me: If the cause of the "check engine" light is something that's not currently happening, the light will go out after I think 3 starts (without problems).

If the cause of the light going on is a "continuing" problem, it won't of course go out until the problem is corrected.

A diagnostic scan tool can also force a reset of the check engine light.

scan tool. With obdII system, it takes in 50 start cycles to clear codes if no other problem is present.
Of course light may be on without codes, this you need a scan tool to check
edit.... cap beat me to it

Thanks for the quick response. We are leaving in a couple of days and this makes me feel a lot better. If it doesn't reset itself I'll get it read.

Thanks again guys):h
