: First Tow With Duramax Im Impressed
FATMAX 08-17-2005, 10:15 PM I towed for the first time on Friday with my Duramax went to a race in Ohio, up the PA turnpike and in northern Maryland up 70. I tow a 28ft inclosed trailor with a 3400lb car and tools, altogether its around 10,000 pounds. The truck never even came out of OD and averaged about 14.5 mpg with the cruise set on 72. There is a few 6% grades that are a few miles long and they dident even bother it. This is on a stock truck with a Predator set on 40. Just figured I would leave a positive on the LLY.

aquaelvis 08-18-2005, 12:11 AM I have also used mine a couple times, towed today with the lift and 35's and I am still impressed. That truck is just a beast, I love the downshifting the Ally does on the downhills.
I just love this truck, worth EVERY penny for the diesel upgrade. :ro)

Do you have an EGT gauge? Just curious as to what temps you were seeing.
briano 08-18-2005, 11:13 AM Its nice to read some positive feedback once in a while

bartman 08-18-2005, 02:05 PM Not trying to piss in your Wheaties, but is that hand calculated mileage? The Predator will mess up the reading on the DIC (display on your dash)
Diesel_Day_Dreamin 08-18-2005, 02:21 PM FATMAX, what's your home location? You sound darn close to me. I've traveled that route many times. Welome aboard! And welcome to the "mile :D wide" grin club.
colnago 08-18-2005, 03:42 PM FATMAX,
Other than the Predator, your truck is stock? I thought that the truck needed a more free-flowing exhaust system, to lower EGTs, before putting a programmer on. Comments or clarifications, anyone?
Joseph
BigShrimpah 08-18-2005, 03:54 PM I had my Predator on months before I put my exhaust on. You don't NEED exhaust, its just recomended.
FATMAX 08-18-2005, 04:37 PM Sorry for not getting back sooner my truck is stock other than the Predator right down to the air filter. I do have an EGT they averaged about 1050 and the highest I saw was around 1200. I live in Pasadena wich is between Annapolis and Baltimore. I did hand caculate I think the trip was 380miles or so and I used like 25gallons I still had like a 1/4 tank when I got there just wanted to top off and check milage.
:ro)
TxChristopher 08-18-2005, 05:15 PM Big tank. Those are good EGT's. I am with the rest, its great to hear a good positive report!
.
FATMAX 08-18-2005, 05:58 PM Yea mine is a long bed it has the 34 gallon tank.
Dieseldoug2 08-18-2005, 07:09 PM I've towed on a couple of trips now ( 7000lb TT) to maine and back. traveled with a PS diesel and could finally walk away from him!:) ( last truck was a 5.7 gasser-great truck low on torque) last weekend did the PA Turnpike Northeast Extension. lots of hills, never even came out of OD. collant temp at 195 ( verified with Snap On scanner) trans temp around 200oF. I am very happy with the truck / power train combo! i can get 18.5 to and from work and 20+ on the highway if i drive conservatively. looking forward to Edge w/ Attitude and maybe ( if my wife will allow) a new exhaust!
truly happy with my trucK:ro) !
