I just wanted to say thank you to Brian at South Bend. I had a dual disc unit from them installed in my '03 LB7 in Oct of 07'. Recently I had to go through my truck and do some overhauling and repairs, I pulled the engine out and when the work was done and the engine was reinstalled, making sure to follow their installation instructions for the clutch, the clutch just would not release when I pushed the pedal. Well, I went ahead and pulled the tranny and bought a replacement slave cylinder, but while it was out I contacted Brian at SB and he walked me through testing the clutch for proper actuation, etc. When I was not happy with my testing results I shipped it to them. Once it got there, (about 2 days, thanks UPS), they went through it and wound up dong a rebuild on it. They remachined the flywheel, replaced the clutch discs, pilot bearing, pressure plate etc and all. Not counting shipping the cost of doing this scared the heck out of me considering the cost of a new clutch, but I have to say they surprised me indeed!!! I received the rebuilt clutch yesterday and I am ANXIOUS as I can be to get it installed and get moving again.

I also have to say that even though they have to be extremely busy, Brian ALWAYS took my call or returned my call in a timely manner, (this is VERY rare in today's performance world IMHO); but he also took the time out of his busy days to make sure that I had all of my questions answered and to make sure I was happy with the results!!! OUTSTANDING customer service!!!

Again, thank you South Bend!!!

I've got a combined 190K miles on SBC clutches in my two ZF6 trucks and never had a problem. They wear out in time from sledpulling but everything does :(. Did you work with SBC or a dealer on your issues?

I personally worked with SBC, but I also understand that when not installed according to the proper procedures, premature failure is not only possible, but likely. That clutch I had rebuilt had been in the truck for right at 3.5 years and I really didn't realize I had issues until it was pulled during extracting and reinstalling the engine. But, although I do not race or sledpull, I DO haul extremely heavy loads with my truck and in most cases for long distances, and that along with my "Need" for fancy downshifting may have had more to do with it needing a rebuild than anything.

I would recommend them to anyone needing a clutch, but I would also make sure that if you purchase one, please, make sure that the person/shop doing the installation has enough experience with them to be doing the work to avoid needless problems.
