: PPE HOT Xcelerator LLY Roasted my Allison on level II
jermstyle 08-17-2005, 09:49 AM Hmm… I loaded up my 05 with the Hot Xcelerator on level II and hot-rodded around for 600 miles and now my tranny slips like a cat on a glass table.
:badidea:
Sure – I got into it several times in second gear but never WOT.
Guess it’s time to look at Allison upgrades. :ro)
C.A.P 08-17-2005, 10:06 AM if you play with fire your going to get burnt , get the credit card out and start singing the trans song " I limped it I limped it" to the tune of about $4000.00 if you do it right , remember do it once and do it right so you dont have to do it again.!!!!
Max Power 08-17-2005, 10:06 AM What are you experiencing?
jermstyle 08-17-2005, 10:44 AM What are you experiencing?
Well... The truck drives fine - no codes. I just doesn't pull very hard when I spool her up in second and you can hear the engine rev fast and feel the truck not move very fast. Normal driving - it's fine. I'm just going to put the stock program back on and start looking into Allison upgrades.
I don't know if I want suncoast or someone else - And if I go suncoast, do I really need a Stage V? Because the MOST I am going to do is turn my PPE up to 240 and add a small shot of nitrous. Reason - I'm going for a big lift and 37's don't go down the quarter very well.
lakingslayer 08-17-2005, 02:20 PM Have you given the trans a chance to learn. It can sometimes take a little time for the learning process. Flair between shifts is common during the learning process. This may be what you are experiencing.
jermstyle 08-17-2005, 02:30 PM I would think that - but it was pullin like crazy all weekend and this week it feels a lot slower. I'm just going to take it easy and save up for a new tranny... :)
Max Power 08-17-2005, 03:42 PM It sounds like you roasted it real good if that is the case.

I'm trying to find an answer to this as well. jermstyle and I have the same setup. I want to run level 2 or 3 on a daily basis and occasionally level 4 for certain "kills" Will a Stage 3 ATS tranny handle this 100% of the time? I know most people want to overbuild but I'm not going to do much more to this truck. Please help. Thanks
05chev 08-18-2005, 10:12 PM try putting it in the tow mode and see if it still slips
midwest 08-18-2005, 10:40 PM If the trans is actually slipping enough to lack acceleration the slip difference will default the trans. If it's not defaulting I bet it's in the converter. Get a tech 2 and watch tcc slip speed.
jermstyle 08-19-2005, 11:37 AM I have just been out driving the truck so maybe I can better explain what’s going on.
For the first 600 or so miles on the new program – the truck pulled insanely hard 2, 3 and 4 and you could tell that it was firmly locked into each gear and ready to pull. After a few hundred miles the truck started de-fueling and hunting for a new gear every time I touched the accelerator. And the strange part is that instead of just locking into a gear and bringing the RPMs up with the truck speed, now it will peg out to 3000RPM and just hold while the truck accelerates. It still pulls pretty good – better than stock - it just doesn’t have that locked feel anymore.
Any ideas?
IdahoRob 08-19-2005, 01:01 PM I'd try another tuner if you have access to one. With the predator/va stack I don't have that problem. When I last ran the PPE/VA I had the exact same problem as you describe(revs to 3000 and stays until the truck catches up. One time it runs strong and the next I have the problem. I think my tranny is slipping, but not 100% sure. Hopefully I'll be able to hook to a tech 2 this weekend and finally put this problem to rest.
P.S. I have a SC converter/transgo kit
Rob
Max Power 08-19-2005, 01:28 PM I you sure you are not just getting used to the power? I know I always feel like mine is dropping off in power but I am just so used to it that it feels slow.
Maxter 08-20-2005, 01:12 PM I don't know if I want suncoast or someone else - And if I go suncoast, do I really need a Stage V? Because the MOST I am going to do is turn my PPE up to 240 and add a small shot of nitrous. Reason - I'm going for a big lift and 37's don't go down the quarter very well.
Those tall tires are possibly going to be worse on your tranny than the occasional quarter mile with that setup.
200 RWHP and a LITTLE shot of nitrous (is there such a thing...):h) is enough to keep a Suncoast III busy. Me; I seem to be one of the exceptions that are running the bastard stack AND Nitrous (.078) on a Suncoast II with the OEM Original clutchpacks.
Suncoast III or IV would be a minimum.
IdahoRob 08-21-2005, 11:26 PM UPDATE:
I was able to put my tranny into fast learn with a tech 2 just before going to the track yesterday. The tranny shifted great with the ppe, I had no problems with the shifts. Looks like I was wrong about the tuner being the problem. Thanks to tophog, motovet, and los lobos for the access and help with the tech 2:ro)
jermstyle 08-22-2005, 02:39 PM Well this weekend my truck started acting better - it pulls like the first day I uploaded the software. I guess it was just in a different mode or something.
Odd...
McRat 08-22-2005, 02:51 PM It took me five 1/4mi passes to fry the Allison on a brand new 05 truck at ~425rwhp running the PPE Hot. Autopsy shows trashed C1's.
Understand that's >175rwhp over stock. Not the tuner's fault, just way too much power. Keep it down to ~65rwhp if you want your trans to live.
I did it to see how long an Allison would handle a 13.x second tuner. Answer was, not very long.
jmg343 08-22-2005, 07:00 PM when C1's went did it just limp the truck or more? I have limped several times, imagine my C1's are totalled, but the truck still runs fine. I know all the codes I get, theyre all the TCM Malfunction code. Is something in there worse than I know?
McRat 08-22-2005, 07:07 PM It threw a 0700 ECM Code (Transmission Problem) and went into Limp Home mode.
