: Where is the LML built?
andy_k 02-21-2011, 04:46 PM Hi Guys,
I just came back from the autoshow and I saw a 2011 LML dually LTZ that had a sticker on the side of the driver's door: "proudly build by union (something) Flynt Michigan".
My dealer told me those trucks are built in Mexico.
Anyone have an official word on this?
95SixFiveSub 02-21-2011, 04:53 PM Maybe the "sticker" was built in Michigan...
You never really know these days, do you?.
I thought alot of the Components were built in Mexico, Gremany or Japan.
BeatriceLML 02-21-2011, 05:06 PM Chevrolet trucks are built in Flint, Michigan. The Duramax is made in Moraine, Ohio. The Allison transmission is made in Indianapolis, Indiana. Your dealer doesn't seem to know his ass from his elbow. Now if he was talking about the Super Duty, some are made in Mexico (650 and 750 I believe), and the others in Louisville, Kentucky. Also, the Power Stroke is made in Mexico as well. Bottom line, Chevrolet Trucks are American made.

IMHO, GM Duramax has a pretty good product right now.
Dealer Salesmen sometimes make me sick.

The reg cabs and crew cabs are made in Flint, Michigan. The ext cabs are made in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The VIN begins in "1" correct? I'm surprised the salesmen didn't know or was just full of it. 1 is USA, 2 is CAN and 3 is MEX. 4 and 5 also USA but IIRC they are reserved for foreign MFG or something.
jmrkav 02-21-2011, 07:40 PM My extended cab was made in Fort Wayne. We kind of need to think about where some of our manufacturing is done while we still have a country.
Lead Foot 02-21-2011, 07:41 PM Chevrolet Trucks are American made.
And American Bailed Out!
So That makes them 100% American!
BombDocDiesel 02-21-2011, 07:43 PM And American Bailed Out!
And paid back. Point being?
KEVINL 02-21-2011, 08:01 PM We have a half ton at work that was built in Canada and avalanches are built in Mexico
All duramax trucks are built in the USA

Really? Check your facts.
powerdog 02-21-2011, 08:35 PM And paid back. Point being?
$26.4 billion is what uncle sam still has invested in GM and its hard to pay back a ownership stake unless the uncle sam decides to sell its share. Roughly 25% of the company owned by the tax payer.
BeatriceLML 02-21-2011, 08:45 PM And American Bailed Out!

Good one, real original. You may be okay with buying a Mexican diesel powered truck and thats fine, but grow up and quit bashing the competition just because it's truly American and a clearly superior product because of it.
Lead Foot 02-21-2011, 08:56 PM And paid back. Point being?
You Guys are so easy :p::D
Thats why I make one hellava Fisherman LOL
Yeap Powerdog is correct!!!
It wasn't Long ago i read they were still Like 50 billion in dept! so his figure is pretty close if not dead on!

redwngr 02-21-2011, 09:25 PM We have a half ton at work that was built in Canada and avalanches are built in Mexico

Oshawa truck plant (and others) was closed during the bankrupcy/restructure.
Oshawa still builds cars, including the Camaro.

LOL did you really just call me a dweeb? It's been awhile since I was last called a dweeb.lol what is that like the 80s equivalent of a d-bag? Get it?
Anyway if I remember right all I've read is about how you hate the LML and are switching to Ford and apparently you've inherited all the bad jokes that go along with it. I'm just gunna leave it at that cause you gave me a good chuckle calling me a dweeb.
Paul Clancy 02-22-2011, 01:54 AM Canada threw in 10.5 billion in bailout $$. FYI.
Madbullogna 02-22-2011, 09:58 AM There's no such thing as "American Made" anymore, imo. Things may be 'Assembled in the US', but various parts and components are made & come from all over the globe. Why people have an issue with that is beoynd me. Not a single mass-produced "US" vehicle can claim they are made of all US manufactured parts and US assembled.
If everything was made in the US, we wouldn't be able to afford anything. Not to mention each country seems to have their specific areas of expertise when it comes to manufacturing. World commerce and trade is your friend, (in moderation and within limits of course). I'm proud to have access to an array of vehicles that are built with the ingenuity of varous countries.

True; but it's always a bit of a dissapointment for me when I open a purchase from an old US manufacturer and some if not all the components are labeled "Made In China".

I bought a bb cap from a mom & pop place a few months back, nothing fancy, just a blk cap with an American flag on the side of the brim, and I liked the subtle look of it.
When I got home, I noticed the tag hidden up under the inner band - "Made in China".....
That said, it has hasn't faded yet despite being black and wearing it in the sun, heh.

NO FOOLIN'.......... Not to mention the great and mighty Duramax is an ISUZU design........ Then GM designs the 4.5 only to shelve it.......
hahler2 02-22-2011, 10:59 AM It is absolutely amazing to me how many people are upset with the government bailout of GM and Chrysler. My brother-in-law switched to a Ford F250 because he "won't ever buy anything from government motors again."
Now granted, I am not real impressed with the bailout, but its certainly a whole lot better than the alternatives. If GM or Chrysler (or God forbid, both) had folded the effect on our economy would have been disastrous.

Well for you "youngsters" I guess that is all you can remember. But there was a time not so long ago when vehicles were made here with parts made here by Americans earning good wages and benefits (if you know what those are). Funny but cars were affordable, people had jobs. Using your line of reasoning, no one should have been able to afford anything and todays products should be cheap as hell. Well, look outside your window and look where your utopia has gotten this country.

andy_k 02-22-2011, 11:18 PM Holy crap,
Can all the bitching stop?
I can't understand why this thread was moved from the LML forum and then put back in it, even though it seems like a bunch of little kids are having a pissing war over themselves. All I wanted to know is where the truck was built ... not a history or a political lesson. Grow up.
to the "remember the times guy", get over it, people didn't have internet then too. The world will keep on turning and "you" have to adapt.
PrivatePilot 02-24-2011, 11:23 AM Thread moved to new vehicle information.

 they sold the design to ford. the 6.7 is almost a direct copy of the 4.5
surf all day 04-11-2011, 12:39 AM I'm surprised a dealer wouldn't know if the truck was built in America or not you think that would be one of his big selling points, and whoever was saying something about the bail out why? think of the bail out as a loan for a great new project like the new lml's and the loan is now paid back so it was like a really smart mistake
DURAtotheMAX 04-11-2011, 10:03 AM Maybe the "sticker" was built in Michigan....
yeah, thats it. The truck is actually built in Kazakhstan and the engine is actually built in iceland, but they put a sticker on it that was made in the USA, so they could "trick" people into thinking the whole truck was actually made in USA.
Right.
ben
fishin Flash 06-07-2011, 07:14 PM Maybe the salesman thought the potential buyer was a Mexican and thought it would be a good selling point to tell him the truck was made in Mexico. Just joking, sounds like the salesman wasn't really too knowledgeable in this area.

That just reminded me of that old movie "Used Cars" where Kurt Russell kept changing his last name to match the ethnicity of the customers LOL

Agreed on it being a selling point and him needing to know that.Loans not paid back, read the whole thread.

jmrkav 07-11-2011, 02:57 PM There was a time when the cars and trucks were made here. Too many Americans decided to support cheap labor and other countries economies. Look at the latest employment stats.

um its called making the most money for your dollar spent. Dont try to tell me you wouldnt want to outsource some things if it made you 3x as much profit.
for the most part, the gm trucks are made here. The only thing building trucks here nowadays is good for is for image/political stunts. I highly doubt the idiot union people produce higher quality stuff than properly supervised/US-quality-controlled overseas workers.
There. I just made this into a "union" thread. Have at it everyone. :)

Its because the suburban and the avalanche are pretty much identical (no really, underneath the different sheet metal, they are the same frame and stuff), thats why they both come down the same assembly line.

Leaving your silly union comment out.....Building "stuff" here is important if you want the country that YOU live in to succeed. You can't wall yourself off and it will come back to haunt all of us eventually. The day to day manufacturing of goods is what made the standard of living that you and your family enjoy. The strength of this country depends on the day to day lessons, engineering, opportunities this creates. It may be more important in the long run than getting the last dollar.
dz302 07-16-2011, 06:34 AM mine was built in indy. 2011 Ext Cab.
Magic Mule 07-25-2011, 09:33 PM Just picked up my new 2011 3500 4X4 CC SRW Z71 SLE - Only 1475 kms on it at this point. At about 2500kms I will be sliding it under my 24' Norbert Stock Trailer w/ 2 X 8000# axles and asking it to pull loaded in the mnts. of southern BC. Really looking forward to experiencing the extra pull and engine braking over my 2007 3500 DRW 4X4. I rolled around inspecting under the new truck before I commited to purchasing and indeed a sticker on this 2011 box frame indicted that the frame was made in Canada, with the truck being built in Flint. Impressed with the improvements engineered into this new truck. On another note--Sad to say the the same official story line being fed to you folks south to the 49th is the exact same load of crap we recieve up here. Ultimately the answers are found if you maintain single minded focus with "your eye on the ball" and "your stick on the ice" remembering to always, always--- follow the money. The Big Money in today's world hovers 6 inches above the ground and has absolutely no loyalty. Main Stream Press-- be it whatever gobal media you listen to-- is ultimately controlled (owned) by 5-6 individuals max. Don't point fingers men--look in the mirror--do you see a Sheeple. The answer I believe waits us when we all awake from our collective coma and see "The House of Cards" we are surrounded by. This is an "us" problem

There is no difference in quality between them or my 2011 Denali LML.

Ahh yes correct! Good catch...I was wrong about that.
Sometime in the 2009 model year I think they moved Suburban/Escalade ESV production from Mexico to Arlington...?
