Just bought a new 05 2500. The truck did not come with fog lights, but it did come with a fog light button. Does this mean that it is pre-wired for lights, or do I need to purchase a wiring harness. I am new to the forum, lots of good info here, so anything will help.

Very Unusual....Are you sure its not the cargo light button your speaking of. Whatever the case, i think one of the forum vendors, gmdieseltech.com has a kit for adding fog lights.

My 03 didn't come with fog lights either and it DID NOT have the switch in the cab from the factory. In order to install them, I had to purchase a Relay (for under the hood) and a switch for the dash. The truck was wired from the dash to the relay spot so the switch was just a matter of removing the existing switch box (that included the cargo switch) and replacing it with a foglights/cargolight combo switch and plugging it in. The toughest part was the fact that you have to find the high amperage output on the bottom side of the relay and put a female connector on the wire that matches the pins in the wiring harnesses in the fuse box (driver's side under the hood). run that wire and a ground down to the fog lights and you're good to go. OH Yeah, I forgot to mention the process of cutting out the plastic valance up front to make holes for the fog lights to fit in.
IF your truck has the switch and the holes cutout of the valance, then your truck probably had foglights from the factory and someone needed them worse that you did.

Thanks to both of you. I thoght it was a fog light switch, NVRENUF you were right, it is not. Also, bricklef, thanks for the info on installing lights.

bricklef,
How much did it cost you to do all that?

Sorry for the delayed response.
I believe I had $40 in the switch, $70 for the pair of fog lights and brackets (from ebay). Not sure how much the relay ($20 comes to mind but not sure) was and throw what ever dollar figure in you want to for wiring and time.
