I have a 2007 3500 Chevy Siverado Duramax. I am looking to get a code reader and I am stationed in Guam. I don't get much help out here with Diesel engines. Does anyone know if this code reader will work on my Truck?
Thanks,
Warrant

Yes it will. It will read and clear codes and even read a certain amount of live data so you can monitor it. It will work on anything 96 and up as long as the vehicle has an OBDII connector.

Warrant - I have the exact same one for my '06 - works great and has saved my butt a few times already, easy to use, as a matter of fact just used it yesterday on my in-laws Ford gasser and it worked great on that as well.

So being in Guam and having the user name Warrant, are you a Warrant Officer?

I've used that same one and seemed to be a nice unit. The manual had lots of info and live streamed many options. Fairly reasonable in price too.

Maine Towing,
Hey I posted this on another page in this forum and came back and saw you have your EGR Blocked... How did you do this and would this fix my problem??
I have a stock 2007 LBZ getting this code PO403 also. The 1 chevy dealership is clueless about diesels on this island... So everything I am reading is it will be okay to ignore it? How tough is it to replace this EGR valve myself??
Thanks for your help!

As for how - it is very easy, first - how many miles on your truck? You need a blocker plate, which is nothing more than a machine cut piece of quality stainless steel, several vendors here have them and they are not very expensive- worth it to buy it from them. With the '07 LBZ ECM you will also need a finger stick, again not terribly expensive. The plate installs in less than an hour depending on how hard the nuts are stuck to studs. The plate actually installs between the end of the EGR cooler tube and the "up" pipe. With a 12mm wrench crawl onto the top of your motor, loook at the tranny dip-stick tube, to the right of it you will see a stainless, cylinder about 10" long and 3" in diameter, it is oriented from the firewall toward the radiator. At the very back of this you see 2 studs going out (tucked almost right up against the firewall) and a pipe heading down - that is the "up pipe". These are the two nuts you back off, gently pry the two apart about 3/16" and slide your blocker plate between the cooler and the existing gasket so that the gasket stays on the up pipe side of the plate. Tighten the nuts down and you are done. The finger stick will require finding a couple wires in the wire loom over by the air filer, you have to tap into these wires and connect the leads from the stick. Unless there was some a base related reason to do so you don't want to replace the EGR, it is expensive, and will crap out on you again, plus it is doing bad things to your engine. You may want to take apart your intake tubes, as best you can, and clean them out, the combination of hot soot from the EGR and suspended oil from the PCV make a very nasty tar lining on the intake, some of the photos are down right scary. The finger stick will make the code stop, it fools the sensor into thinking it has the air flow the EGR would have provided. You are not hurting anything by running it with this code, I just would not do it for ever as your EGR may be stuck wide open in which case when the engine is warm you are drawing in a lot of extra exhaust - then again it could be stuck closed, either way for $50 or so and about a few hours work your problem will be fixed and your engine will last longer as a result.

Wow thanks for taking the time to write back on this post. I have 50K on the truck and as soon as I post this I will be looking online for the plate and the finger stick. What does the blocker plate do? I have no experience working on diesels. I guess I need to get busy fixing this!! My home computer crashed and I finally got a new one that is why it took so long to get back to this post.
Thanks again!

The blocker plate prevents exhaust gas from entering your intake air stream. In order to pass EPA emissions our trucks use the EGR valve as a means of taking a measured amount of exhaust gas and recirculate it back into the intake manifold, this hot, sooty gas mixes with suspended oil droplets from the PCV valve and makes instant tar coating the intake tract. There are kits out there to delete (remove) the EGR valve completely, but they cost quite a bit more. The nice thing about the blocker plate is that you can remove it to pass emissions if you ever have to and nobody is any wiser.
