I built a 03 he is my problem.
I put a ATS stage 5 extreme trany in with a Aurora 5000 turbo kit w/head studs , A Quad 215hp box stacked with a Edge hot juice, took it out put about 50 easy miles on it ran great . Decided to give it hell :ro) and by time I hit drive I lost 2 cylindersCensored . so I pulled the motor found 2 pushrods lost the top press in piece.
Question now is does anybody make aftermarket pushrods and valve springs:help:

Damn! Something definatly went wrong. These motors take insane amounts of power without a problem usually. I'm sure someone on here will chime in any second now and be able to help you out. Nick

When you had the heads off for head studs one of the valve bridges was not seated properly. Did you reset the valve lash after the heads were removed and reinstalled? Look at the top of the pushrod ball that came off. does it have half round circles on the top across the oil lube hole.If it does the push rod was not properly seated in the seat of the rocker arm. If the bridge was not seated and you reset the lash it would be too loose now.
Another dumb question, when the heads were off did you clean the heads in a solvent tank.If you did this cleans any lubricant out of the guides and under high boost high heat the valves stick in the guides and the push rod or bridge pops out. This usually happens within the fist 50-100 miles till plenty of oil gets in the guides.
I bet if you look the pushrod ball has those marks on it.If it is off the rocker seat it cracks the pushrod tube or the braze and the ball falls out.
Good luck Tim

Actually I had the head studs done by Eric Merchant and he didi them one at a time , never removed the heads. I beleive it happened when I hit the rev limiter for a breif moment when the trany was shifting.

You should have a file like PPE or TTS that raises the rev limiters. With the combo you have they accelerate to hard/quickly to ever shift fast enough and bounce off the rev limiter. The fuel cut off is pretty abrupt. The boxes won't do it.Why are you stacking 2 boxes? do you actually see enough improvement to justify $. Tuner and box yes but not 2 boxes.
On another note, what boost pressures did you see. It's possible we are starting to get to the limit of valve sping pressure with high boost holding valves open enough to float.

I put the studs in the truck, heads never come off. It went 50 miles or so with at least two people driving it before this happened with out so much a tick. Talking to Glen, sounds like it wouldnt shift into 3rd(?) and the cust held it to the wood. He has a Quad in the truck which took care of the rev limiter problem.
Should be able to see the parts today myself. I have some pieces and parts laying around to help them get it back togather.

Hey, pushrods ain't bad! At least they will protect the rest of the motor.
I lost 16 out of 32 in a 1968 GTO. Missed a shift.
That's the bad thing about removing the rev control. Racers have known for years that a rev control is your wallet's best friend.

I have been told the stock valve springs have 80 lbs seat pressure at installed height, and the valves will float just over 5000 rpm, which results in, well, bent push rods.
I've seen it in over rev'ed LB7s a few times ( usually a result of owner assited starting proceedure aka, ETHER, WD40, even a cup of diesel in the intake)
Don't stop at just replacing the valve springs and push tubes, pull the heads and check the valves and piston heads ( bet ya find marks on the tops from the valves hitting )
I reassembled an engine that had been over reved, just replacing the rockers, push tubes and valve bridges, a few hundered miles later, it was back, this time trashed, it dropped a valve.
one of the valve stem tips had been fractured and broke right at the spring retainer/keepers
The result was pretty messy.
wish I had the time and $$$$ to play like that !

I agree. Seen the same thing a few miles later. Took a head and 2 pistons where the valve stuck in it. Tim

Thanks for the info we're putting, I took in what you wrote and thought we should put in all new valve bridges and push tubes ,and we also took the heads in to a machine shop to have the valves looked at, also to check out the valve guides. I'll let you know what we find out.
