hello to one and all, here for the first time and I'm leaving my first Thread. My ? is, I what to pull out the stock head unit and replace with a Alpine head unit. If I go the route of just that, am I going to have problems with the ele. because I pluged the Alpine head unit into the stock wire harness. Or if I go the route of unpluging the wire harness and running new power, remote, speakers, and amps, and not pluging it into wire harness at all, have I created a open loop?
I have the LS decor:
am/fm stereo w/cd player
no xfm, no bell and whisles
the alpine head unit that I what to put in has xfm and I would like to activate it once it is installed. I also would like to run my ipod with this install.
any hints or ideas from anyone and everyone would save a blonde from looking blonde.

If you don't have the Bose head unit, you can get by with a wiring harness adaptor and mounting kit for your Alpine. Should be a done deal. If you have a Bose head unit, then I believe there is an adaptor you may need.

Bose system will require an AOEM-PAC24 adapter.
www.jpcustoms.com has them.

Only the Bose needs the PAC adapter?

Both bose and non bose can use the same PAC adapter for 2003 and up trucks.

I did the same thing you are trying to do but I used that pac adapter mentioned above and it works amazingly well. I didn't try it the other way because that would force me to find a power and acc power and a ground. It could also screw up the data bus on the truck. Maybe it will maybe it won't but I didn't want to find out.

andrewfessler~
The guy who started this thread does not need a PAC adapter. He has the non-bose system. I just did the same thing and mine works great. If you don't believe me, the call JP...they sold me the wiring harness and mount... Thanks

I was under the information that for non bose systems the "pac" adapter still gives you a amp control wire, etc.
You are correct though, if you do NOT have a BOse system, you can get away with just a wiring harness.

you don't NEED an interface, but it makes the install easier and you get better factory integration. IMO the Metra GMRC-01 is a better interface than the PAC one.

thanks blue and rstuff....
The only thing you loose by not using the PAC adapter is the door, light, and key chimes.... IMO, I would rather not have them... the lights are auto on, the key is always with me, and the door is only open when I am getting out...

The metra adapter kept all that stuff. I pulled the little speaker off the wiring harness so I didn't have the chimes though.
