I just bought a new 2005 crew cab short box auto 2wd duramax HD 2500.
There are some disturbing posts on here, and I am not understanding all of them completly. I pull a 30' enclosed race car trailer.
I want to know what type of mileage you guys are getting with these trucks?
What programmers are the best bang for the buck?
What is the best for fuel mileage?
Anything to look out for on my new truck?

Thanks for all the responses in advance. Just found this forum today, and am impressed with the good info available here.

By the way, I live in Dallas, TX

Don't be afraid of your truck. These are the best. My 05's are getting double digit pulling and 18-20 MT. Predator still gets my vote for best bang for the buck. EZ did get a little better MPG, but EGT's were higher and no diagnostics.

LISTEN TO EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE, THEN MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION ON THE MODS!

3-D, Welcome to the forum! Rick is right, use the search button and type in fuel mileage. That should keep you busy for about 4 hours. Then search the LLY engine pages for performance. You have just entered the diesel world with a good solid truck, now with a little help from your new friends, you have the opportunity to dig deep into your pockets and make it a great truck that will last longer. Happy hunting and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Hey Rick, is it still raining at your house?

Just taking a break myself, been in the shed working on the Polaris. Rain lulls you to sleep on a steel roof. What's got you down?

thanks guys, is the Predator the same as the bully dog pup. That was the one I was looking at. I have heard that the programmer and K&N filter are teh 2 best things to do. The last thing I want is an overheating problem, because that will cause me to overheat. LOL
keep the info coming

3-D, Somewhere on the forum there is a test of the various air filters. Long story short, keep the AC Delco till you read up on it.

Rick, Is it a cast or the cool halo with screws?

any suggestions on the programmers, not going for top HP, just something to help performance while towing, but mainly mileage while empty.

I'm running an Edge w/Attitude on level 2 and as long as I keep my foot out of the go pedal, I can get over 20 mpg on the highway and 18+ in the city. Hand calculated of course. I can't speak for the LLY's, but you will realize your mileage go up after you put some miles on the engine.

Aketay how many miles before the MPG should start getting better? I have about 2500 on mine and still not getting what everyone else is claiming. Also are you running the stock size tires.

3-D sorry for jumping in on your thread but I'm in the same position as you.

Somewhere around 8000+ miles and yes I still run the stock size.

I love my truck and the things I like best are as follows. Predetor on 65 tune, milage up 1 to 1.5 mpg, S&M cold filter kit best bang for the buck for cold air kits - it helps egt's and milage. Good gauges I've SPA pro and like it. Finger stick and egr blocker plate - worked great for me. Gut the cat or replace the exaust all the wa back. This sounds like alot to do but it can be done in 1 -2 nights and it runs MUCH better than stock and you get a good milage boost to boot. You'll be smilin.
