When I start the truck up after it sits for an extended period of time (cooled off), I get a real bad squealing noise from under the truck. From I can tell, it is coming from the tranny. Opened the hood and had the wife start it up, it wasn't too bad. Got underneath, around the tranny, and had my wife start it up again, it just about blew my ear drums down the road. Any ideas??????

What does your tranny fluid look and smell like? Manual or auto? Try removing serpantine belt and start and run for about 30 seconds to rule out the front of the engine.:grd:

Tranny fluid and filter have been replaced. Noise was there before the replacement, so I did the filter/fluid change and it's still there. Shoulda said it before, but I did take the belt of (before fluid change) and noise was still there. Without a doubt, the noise is from the tranny. To top this all off, every once in awhile the tranny with shift hard coming out of first and less noticable as it shifts thru the gears. I wrote on this before and it was recommended that I remove the speed sensors and clean. So I did and it worked for the time being. But it's back, however it will go away when I shut her down and start her back up. Sounds like one or both of the sensors (4x4) are taking a crap. I don't think this would have anything to do with my squealing...would it?

Anyway, more thoughts on the squealing issue???????

Maybe you should try unbolting the torque converter from the flex plate and starting it to be 100% certain that it is that. There is the possibility that something could be inside the bellhousing. As far as the harsh 1-2 shift my suburban has been that way since I got it. Local trans shop said that a trans shift kit would remedy it, there was a problem with the 1-2 shift accumulator spring in the early 4L80E's.
