: Tow/Haul and sudden stops...

We just got back from vacation, and for the second time, I've had to shut the truck and camper down in BIG hurry.

In short, going east on I-70 approaching Denver, come up over a hill, and traffic in front of me is at a dead stop. I slam on the brakes, the trailer brakes don't lock, but the anti-locks are pulsing on the truck. During this whole time I'm in tow/haul mode.

I've noticed that both times that this has happened to me, it doesn't seem like the transmission is shifting down thru the gears while I'm stopping. Maybe it all happens so fast that I can't tell.

Has anyone else noticed this, or is shutting it down quickly just too fast for the transmission to make all the shifts ???

Not really a problem, just curious...

Watch your tach, it makes real quick blips. Your brakes were doing all of the work. You really don't want your trailer to lock up, the Prodigy did the right thing. Short and sweet, glad your here to tell the story. I had someone pull out in front of me in SD and had to stand on the brakes hard. These are some impressive trucks, didn't stripe my pants.

The Allison transmission will maintain current gear during a ABS stop. Reason being, you don't want the change in torque from a downshift when you're possibly on a slick surface. It's done for safety.

aketay,

That's probably what happens, and it all happens SO fast that you have no idea what's going on. I was more curious than anything.

As for the Prodigy... I don't think that the trailer brakes ever locked up, but the truck brakes were pulsing. When my dad was setting up his truck, I told him that he HAD to get a Prodigy. He was griping about how much it cost, and I had to remind him that cost was no issue when it REALLY works. I've NEVER had a brake controller that works as good as this thing. I absolutely love it!!!

If you are going to travels through the mountains often, I would suggest an exhaust brake for safety reasons. They really work.
