I am looking at a 2003 chevy 3500 with the D/A combo. My question is it has 250000 miles, is there any life left in this truck. I know the person who had it and he says it is in very good shape, and it doe's look very good. The dealer who has it is the one it was bought from new and they have done all the service work on it and have all the service records even the oil annalysis. The truck runs very well and seams to shift ok, would any of you be afraid of this deal. I would appreciate any input on this matter. thank you.

as long as the price is right, I'd say no worries. Your long out of warranty on it and any problems that may occur are likely not gonna be handled by the dealer

If in good shape, I'd do it

I agree with dmaxallitech. Keep in mind, however, as the miles climb, it will begin to nickel and dime you. I now have 150k miles on my 01 and just recently I had all new brakes and rotors, a new carrier bearing, an axle seal fixed, new emergency brake shoe, and u-joints. Total of about $1800. Pretty soon, I will need the transfer case rebuilt or replaced (as soon as the clunk annoyance gets to be too much) and probably a new torque converter installed (vibrates the truck when it locks in at 55mph). That will cost more. The truck is paid for, I love driving it, and the repair costs are better than monthly payments and debt, but it does become a hassle.

thanks for the input. I went ahead and made a deal on the truck. I love the power of it and could not find anything wrong with it. I talked to a couple of diesel shops and they said this motor and trans should be able to go 500000 miles if cared for so i guess its mine now. Thanks again.

must say I am delighted to see Eric's response to this thread :ro) .... we have 99,000+ miles on our '01 which is running strong and appears to have good bit of life left in it!!

I've got a trans here with 440,000 miles on it or so... Only thing wrong with it is the bearing between the output shaft and the P3 sungear. Clutches ALL look like new.
