i have a 96 k3500 dually with the 6.5 diesel.last year was my 1st time pulling loads of fun cant wait to go pull again in 4 months.im just wondering if anyone can give me tips on how to build some speed up to pull the sled?its hard to pay attention to the gauges while im pulling as anyone whos pulled can understand why.i know the 6.5 isnt good for pulling but its the only thing i can affrord rite now. heres how i set it up 3rd gear and 4 low with tires abt 60 psi?would manualy shifting the 4l80e help any or just leave it in 3rd? if you have been over here to lancaster pa the track is called the buck its many pullers favorite track.so far ive gotten 265.1 feet i know i can go farther im just unsure how i dont have mommy and daddys truck to go break like half of the kids do.im a big chevy guy the next truck i want is the dmax and i would like a cummins but im not much a dodge guy.any help.im seeking help to try and improve my distance and to impress more people with this truck.

Do you have anything done to the truck? 60psi seems a little high to me. Might want to try 50 in the back and 30ish in the front. If you have "stock" power, 3rd gear may be too high a gear. What kind of rpm do you see in 3rd? Fill out a signature so we can see what you have.

I would definitely shift that trans manually with starting in first gear. You probably won't be able to run much over first maybe up into second depending on how the sled is set. Should be able to get it down there a ways with the right setup. Good Luck!!

I havent got to watch your truck actually run- nor have i gotten to see it up close either- but hitch height at max, suspension stops set for 1'' of travel, and being at full weight all make a big difference. And like said before your tire pressure will play a part in how it hooks. Do you normally run out of power or spin out at the end?
GOOD LUCK Steven

so far all thats really done to the old girl is a intercooler which doestn really help much at the speeds my truck is going also have a cold air intake and a 4 inch exhaust thats all that i have done to the truck so far.im planning here shortly putting new injectors in it which i think will help the old girl has abt 127,000 miles on her and im pretty sure there the original injectors to.im not quite sure but i think the 1st owner im the 3rd the 2nd owner i know didnt really do much if any performance mods to it but i think the 1st guy had the ecm done i havnt seen a 6.5 run this good ever pulling a sled when i get abt the 220 to the 260 ft mark it sounds like im loosing traction and im not up in the rpms its hard to pay attention to the gauges when your pulling but if i remeber corectly i think im rite abt 1500 rpms -2000.id hate to put a real strain on the drive train since its my daily driver but it is a chevy so its not going to break like a ford.after watching guys on youtube pulling with the cummins i know there red lining it but id hate to try this with the 6.5 but i know it will hold together with it being low milage atleast i think so.so if anyone knows a trick to getting this old girl up there let me know.i dont think 265.1 is bad considering i beat to brand new fords.
