Looks like in 2006 they are not showing an exhaust brake on the PU yet. Exhaust brake is on the 4500 and 5500 only.

If you read the news release it tells about the exhaust brake for the 06. It is a part of the turbo. Currently it is in the 4500-5500 but apparently will be standard in the LBZ.

Banks will be offering an exhaust brake that uses the vgt turbo. You would think that GM would do it if for other reason then the revenue

exactly, AND then it wouldnt void the warranty, although im seeing GM blacklist folks now for just using TUNERS:eek: :mad:

Drove an 06 last week and it had the new 6 speed w/tap shift (neat idea for us 5th wheelers on mountain grades) but it did not have an exhaust brake and the service manager said he had not heard of any such addition on the 06's. The 4500 and 5500 have an exhaust brake but it is the butterfly, not the vgt mod. For what it is worth.

hey thanks, when you say butterfly, what do you mean? is it external? How does it work exactly?

A butterfly is just that a butterfly valve that closes that adds backpressure to the exhaust slowing the motor RPMs.

i wanna get the part number to this thing so i can see if i can add it onto my 05. That is horsepucky them saying an aftermarket exhaust brake voids the warranty.

I belive pacbrake supplies the exhaust brake for the 4500/5500 trucks. The other day I drove a Jayco Seneca class c motorhome on a 5500 chassis and I was impressed with how well it slowed the camper down.

However, if you install one on a GM pickup the dealer has the right to void any warranty repair that was caused by the brake.

It's the law.
A warranty can be voided by installation of aftermarket parts only if the aftermarket part is the proximate cause of the failure.

Even though the brake is installed in the factory on the very same engine and tranny on the 4500/5500 series trucks, it would still be considered to be aftermarket on the 2500/3500.

If you install an exhaust brake and (I'm not sure of it's placement, so this may be BS) the increased backpressure leads to EGTs high enough to smoke the turbo (say you hit the gas with the brake on), you're going to be buying a new turbo.

According to Banks and the GM news release this brake with be electronic not a manual add-on. Supposedly they are going to be able to completely shut the vanes thereby creating the same effect as the butterfly. We will see, I am on the list for the mailout when Banks releases their version, which should be Nov or Dec.

You mean the turbo itself would function as the brake?
Hmm... dunno if I'm too crazy about the idea of adding more moving parts to a turbo. That's a pretty harsh environment.

It doesn't sound like they would have to add parts since the veins are there. Perhaps they can do it with just programming. I wouldn't go for it, using a turbo as an exhaust brake just doesn't sound wise.
