relatively new to diesels and was reading on a different forum guys talking about their egts running 1600+. i was under the impression that egts shoudlnt exceed 1200-1300 for extended periods? any clarification would be helpful.

Just because your not supposed to do it doesn't stop anyone. The more you go above the shorter life your engine is going to have.

you could put some exh and air flow devices on to bring down egt's exh proflow manifolds and up pipes, hot side boost tube, egr delete, tony has one with gride heat, and a down pipe and exh pipes 4' or 5' air box mod direction from PPE adds up but keep's you safer, and live longer, and some EFI tunes good to go jmo

Twin turbos and EFI tuning from a good tuner. It would be topping for the above mods. to blow your hair back.

1600 is WAY hot for even a moment.
These innercooled trucks can run 1350 all day. Anything above that should be for a short time. Most ive seen while towing is about 1450, but not for long.
This is considering a daily driver. If your talking drag race only.....some guys build a motor so extreme, its only meant for one pass down the strip, then in goes a new motor.
Careful who you listen too....

I'm not sure what post it is but it is on this site some where. A GM tec. stated that the duramax is rated 100% duty cycle at 1375 exaust temp. I have been keeping to that and my truck is still running strong.
