I don't know about you other lly owners but I'm just a little pissed that GM gave up on it already to make the lbz. I feel like i just pissed away $47,000 on something that I can't mod up like an lb7. So basically my question is would i be dumb for trading my 05 slt extended cab with 10,500 miles for lets say an 03 or 04 lb7 crewcab slt for maybe the same payment or less? I want to have something that I can put some power to with the the thing not limp moding all the time.

Bogger...you can still limp an LB7 Alli if you try hard enough. And the setup that you are running provides enough power to do just that.

I'm pretty easy on my LB7/Alli until the trans mod, but there are times I'll put it in level 5 to teach some punk a lesson, but I get out of it before she hits OD. But I have heard that once you limp it, it limps easier every time after that.

IMHO...keep the truck if that is the only problem you are having. Get the trans done and then you can line them up behind you running around on level 5 all day long puffing black smoke the whole time. You've got a sweet truck there, that has some great mod's already on it.

I say keep your LLY too... Not for the same reason though... I traded in my lb7 after the injectors filled up my crankcase, TWICE! The injectors under the valve covers is just a time bomb waiting to go off...

I don't have any pics, but I can explain it. All I did was take dryer duct like from your washer and dryer. Right where your tow hook is on the passenger side I bent the tubing all the way up to the bottom of the airbox where I cut a hole in the bottom of it. This way it only cost me $60 for a k&n air filter instead of x amount of dollars for a cold air kit. I really don't know if I gained or loss but I like to think I gained even if I didn't lol.

Do you really think though eventually that the aftermarket will still embrace the lly to make it a good modifier like the lb7 is. It just seems like you can do so much to the lb7 to get BIG power gains. Like I said it really dissappoints me that they(GM) gave up on the eninge. Cuz that's exactly what they did.

Mods to the LLY are tracking much like they did on the LB7's. This is typical anytime a new engine is put into production. We're already seeing some pretty impressive stuff with the LLY. Sounds like you are into mods, if so the tranny is likely your biggest limitation not the LLY. ;)

The LB7 wasn't without problems, injectors are the most common you'll see mentioned. IMHO you wouldn't be gaining anything by trading from one to the other. We did a poll several months back and the overwhelming majority of LLY owners were having few, if any problems with their trucks. :D

If you are running cold air intake you definitely have the benefit of a bit more hp and lower EGT's. The boyz, and girlies Kat ;) , on the P&P forum can help you turn the LLY into a screamer. Later. JJ :)

Bogger...the LLY is basically the same engine with a new turbo and some new fuel mapping. They changed the design of the head a little to gain access to the injectors easier. But you have an engine that can be modded. It is still new and the aftermarket companies are getting it sorted out.

So hang in there and don't throw away all the money you've already invested in it. There are people on here that are really working hard to make it a quality power monster.

Your engine is making the power, you're just limping the trans. That can all be fixed through a trans mod. The Alli that you have behind your LLY is the same one I have behind my LB7.

I don't feel that GM is abandoning this engine because the LBZ is again, essentially the same engine with some minor changes. And with the new 6 speed, will probably be a great combo. But I am sure that package will go through it aches and pains just like the LLY and the LB7 has.

LB7's have been around for 4 years and the aftermarket has really got them rocking! But you still can't get that power to the ground without a trans mod. But IMO, I say hang in there. You'll see these guys on here making some big power and getting it to the ground with these LLY's.

Oops, I forgot to mention that with the mods being implemented on the "overheating thread" the LLY is soon going to be a freaken beast! Fun, fun, fun! JJ
