: Sixty foot times
05dmaxlly 01-14-2011, 08:27 PM Well ive been looking at my time slips and compared to the 60 times im seeing on here...they suck. i have consistant 2.0xx and a couple 1.9sin bolth 2wd and boosted 4x4 launches. and my fastest 1/4 time isn't the best 60 either wich was in 2wd and was 13.82 @ 102 with a 2.171 60.
so i guess my question is how do i get the 60 times down? the truck is lowered 3 in in the back and the front is down just enough to be level with the back. ive read about spring clamps and traction bars? what setups work best for you guys?
IdahoRob 01-15-2011, 01:01 PM Should be able to get the truck in the 1.8 with just tire pressure and spring clamps with a 4x4.
JoshH 01-16-2011, 01:20 AM First of all, how low exactly is the front end? What kind of angle are you seeing on the tie rods and axle shafts? Also, how hard are you launching in 4wd? Is it just rolling out of the hole with no drama, or is it jumping and bucking all over the place? What size tires are you running? How much does the truck weigh? Are you deep staging? More info would be very helpful.
LWATSON 01-16-2011, 08:39 AM My torsion bars are about 3 turns below stock level, tire preasure 38 front and 28 rear, springs clamped on the front with worn out Michelin LTX MS. My best is a 1.71 60' I get consistant high 1.7's with this settup. I'm sure with my new tires and droping the t-bars all the way down I can get mid to high 1.6's
05dmaxlly 01-16-2011, 10:35 AM i have no idea the front matches the back with 3 in shackle. so maybe an inch lower in the front. the cv angle has a slight angle almost straight. those times were with 265's with 45 psi in all four. i was launching at 5 psi and it would just pull to the left, not so much hopping or bucking. and im not sure of the weight i think its around 7,000
JoshH 01-16-2011, 06:46 PM Do you have any front end mods done (sleeves and braces)? If so, you need to launch harder. I usually launch around 12 to 15 psi or 2000 to 2300 RPM. Some like to go by boost, others like to go by RPM. I would also suggest you lower the front down all the way if you plan to try a good hard launch.
madhat 02-04-2011, 11:36 PM I did not see you answer what PSI you are launching at.
Are your tires spinning?
LWATSON 02-05-2011, 05:33 PM I dont know who this question is for, but I launch by RPM. It's much easier for me to controll the RPM than it is boost. I launched at 1700 with my old tires and spun a little sometimes. I think with my new tires I'll be able to launch at 2000 or maybe a little higher. This thread kind of got derailed when colt came on here trying to sell someones truck.
blkdmax 02-05-2011, 05:41 PM Im going to get my trans. built by diesel addiction in march and also going to get the acid tune, is there anyway i could launch in 2wd or will it be a waste of time? im just worried about launching in 4wd due to my cv angles and bigger tires.

TheBac 02-05-2011, 07:37 PM 4 years ago I was asking the same questions you are now.
Make/buy some spring clamps for the front of the rear springs.
Lower your torsion bars right down on the stops, then put 3 turns back into the pass side bolt for preload.
What make tires do you run? Do you spin excessively on launch?
Id lower the tire pressure in the rear a bit more....maybe start at 40.
JD4440 02-05-2011, 08:27 PM OK, the random stuff has flown - haha

Like Tom said but I used to clamp all 4 corners of the springs. I started at 40 psi and ended up 35f/30r worked best most times with BFG at's
blkdmax 02-06-2011, 12:34 AM Crazy question, what kind of clamps do you use? Just c-clamps or what?

I think theres some info in here that might help http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=162207
JD4440 02-06-2011, 10:25 AM i made some from 3/8 plate and 1/2" bolts

I did the same thing, started high and lowered it down about 35f/28r worked great for me. Torsion bars lowered all the way and clamped the front of the springs. It was good for 1.68-1.72 60 ft times.
I launch by RPM as well, I found it to be more consistent then launching by boost.

The Acid tune pretty much will just blow the tires off in first and second, even on good pavement sometimes I can roll in it at about 35 mph, I think 3rd gear and the tires will break loose. I've always ran 265 tires with this tune, your tires may work better, but anything short of slicks is going to spin in first even without a boosted launch.
05dmaxlly 04-10-2011, 09:33 PM well first time at the track since i posted this. i tried some things. unfortunately i didn't have time to make spring clamps, but i ran 35 psi in the front 25 in the back. launchhing at 2200 was the best with a 1.76 60' and 13 flat in the 1/4
adrenaholic1 04-10-2011, 10:42 PM Very nice, congrats, knock knock 12 sec...how did it feel? what was your mph?
05dmaxlly 04-12-2011, 11:13 PM thanks! it felt good..efi definitely way smother and faster than the ppe i had when i started this thread. but it was 102.55mph. i really wanted to break 12 this year but im close. i think if i make some spring clamps. take the h2s n 33's off and put the stock wheels with 265's on il get high 12's
LWATSON 04-13-2011, 06:22 PM You'll easily break into the 12's by just putting some stock wheels and 265s on. Congrats on the 13 flat, thats still an acomplishment.
