I am currently working on a deal for a new '04 2500 HD with the D'Max. It has the LB7 engine. Does anyone have a quick rundown on the revisions that were made from early D'Maxes to this '04 LB7 that is in my (hopefully mine tomorrow!) prospective truck? I was mainly curious about what changes were made to the fuel injectors and when the changes came about? In other words, I know it's not the newer LLY edition, But how much better, if at all, is it from say the '01 models? Also, From what I understand, The newer LLY engine has incorporated an EGR valve and a catalytic converter.Does the '04 with the LB7 engine have an EGR and a catalytic converter too? I am hoping the answer is no, as this seems to be a major point of problems for the Powerstroke motors. I was hoping to find a truck with the newer LLY Duramax, But it looks like my dealer won't have one for about 6 to 8 more weeks. Edited by: cplane

No cat on my LB7. Not sure about the egr. Been too busy to checkhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif, but I think I remember reading that the '04 LB7's have them. IIRC, the injectors were upgraded during the '02 model year.

Ya know it has been the common wisdom that the injectors in the 01's and early 02's were not holding up as well as the "new" injectors in the late 02-03's, but the recent forum traffic seems to have a lot of 03's having problems. I don't think that the issue has changed much.
I don't know if its actuall injector problems or the return lines going or what, injector issues seem to be low but steady.
I can't see a pattern based om model year.
