anyone know or find out yet how to tell the difference in the LLY and the LBZ?? VIN number still?? (LB7 digit 8 is a 1, LLY digit 8 is a 2) It would be nice to know this for all the new folks with 06's that join up and don't realize which motor they have.

360 / 268 @ 3200 rpm (2500 HD and 3500 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra) (LBZ) (Automatic transmission only) (Available beginning 4 th quarter 2005)

310 / 231 @ 3000 rpm (2500 HD and 3500 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra) (LLY) (Automatic transmission only) (Available through 3 rd quarter 2005)

LB7 and LLY is pretty obvious when looking under the hood. I don't think it will be as obvious between LLY and LBZ.

Briano,
I cant figure it out and would like to. Have an 06,engine code on airbox is 6GMXH06.6591 Advertised horsepower 310 @ 3000 rpm, fuel rate@ adv. horsepower=95.3 MM3/STK Service part id sticker in glove shows LLY, but vehicle has the bosch pcm,etc that i've been reading about on this forum. If you find out i'd sure like to know if this is a modified lly or an early lbz.

8th digit on the '06 LLY is also a "2", just like the '05.

I think telling the 06 apart from other years is obvious by looking at the engine, but knowing if you have an LBZ or LLY is what I wonder.. when someone gets an LBZ check the 8th Vin digit..I'm curious if its a 3

63, it's been stated that the 06 lly's have the same parts as the LBZ except the block and higher HP/TQ numbers. The block is the limiting factor for us, the LBZ gets an upgraded block to hold the higher power.

Since we all know that the block will hold more HP, it's not too much of an issue for me. If we get a programmer, fine, if not oh well it will still do what I need.

Really simple - if you see it in your rear view mirror, it's a LLY. If you're looking at the tailgate, it's an LBZ.
