Hey guys just got rid of my 04 Excursion 6.0 Diesel, whew that thing killed me in repairs!!! Picked up an 06 2500 Sub with 40K miles on it! I have been reading on the forum about the torque management system which is the 1 thing I don't like on my 8.1! Every time I take off from a light it reminds of turbo lag on a Diesel? After I get off the line it pulls like a freight train! What tuner are you guys using for this 8.1 motor? Should I install the 180 degree thermostat? Looking forward to getting this Sub ready to tow my 11K toy hauler!! Any 8.1 hints or tips??

Welcome to the forum. As far as torque management your going to have to get a custom tune or purchase EFI live and tune it yourself. some good tuners are blackbear, nelson and westers. they will be able to help you with getting rid of torque management. Also the 180* thermostat will help out a decent amount with coolant temp spark retard, for more tips and tricks Read the sticky at the top of the gassers forum and look FOR 8.1L Tips and Tricks at the top and that will steer you in the right direction.

+1 on the lower t-stat...easy mod, reduced oil consumption for me so it has already paid for itself.

Look into a custom tune, I have the diablosport tuner, it works for me, but I wish i would have done a custom tune...

I would love to find an 06/2500 w/40k on the clock. Congrats. Get a custom PCM, thermostat, & muffler. You will be stoked.

DONT get a tuner. Diablo is....ok. They are the best of handhelds but not really close to a custom tune. It would remove most the TM cause U got a 4L85e tranny and it will mess with them....but still. GET A TUNE!!
