I test drove a new 06 with the six speed Allison today. I did not get on it to test the power. I just wanted to see how the six speed works. Being able to up shift/downshift the gears with the switch was a hoot and should please the most die hard manual trans lover. As near as I could see the engine was turning approximately 2200 RPM @ 75 MPH in 5th and 1900 RPM in six. Later! Frank

I am envious.
I ordered a 2006 Express van yesterday with the detuned LLY and the beefed up electronic 4-speed brain beneath the floorboards. Allison isn't available in the vans. That 6th gear with the standard 3.73 rear would have been perfect for my kind of highway driving. As it is, I am looking at 2408 rpm calculated at 75mph compared to your real time 1900 experienced in your test drive. Ugh.
I think I see a new ring and pinion in my future. But, even installing a 3.23 would only drop my rpms to 2085 calculated. I can definitely see big advantages to the Allison 6spd... it is a big plus for selecting a pickup truck over the van... but, I have to have a van.
