I know there is a ton of info both pros and cons about this older engine but I can't help posting this.

There is a 94 at a local dealer, 2500 x-cab long bed loaded very very sharp 87,000 miles. Everything except for some minor bodywork is nice and I really like this truck. $5,400.00

This guy says that the only big problem with the older GM diesels is the injectors. I know thats not entirely true but really? Is this thing sure to blow pulling a trailer someday? I've never owned anything but gas.

Sure is a good deal aside all the concerns. Sooo....what do you think?

Welcome,
I have a 94 216,000 same injectors... I think the biggest problem with them where the PMD / injection pumps. A alot of other member know way more about them than I do, so I'm sure you'll find all kinds of help here. Do a sreach for something like "buying a 6.5TD" or "what to look for when buying a 6.5TD" you'll find alot of info that way.

Injectors are not a great problem causer. It's not that they never cause any problems, but they are far, far, far down on the list. If considering buying this, what would you be using it for? Towing, around town, or any other things?

Identify your usage, and see if the truck fits. If you want to pull a 30+ft 5th wheel with a 3.42 rear, you'll need a bushel basket for parts to pickup. If you just want to use it around town, then you'd get great milage. 4.10 rear would be great for towing, but suck down fuel for "towning."

There are problems out there, but they've all got them. Look up the warranty history on the VIN number and see if you have any injection pumps or anything done. If it's original, with steel rollers, you better see about getting that out of there before long. Check to see if still under warranty with date of service. Hurry fast. 11 year, 120,000 mile warranty on fuel system.

u know I'm not sure on the rear-end. I'll call the guy tomorrow and get that info and the VIN.

It will mainly be used for landscaping. By that I mean hauling the crew to and fro and a 18' goose-neck trailer. A lot a highway miles can be expected. As far as towing an occasional skid loader or tree runs. 2 horse trailer now and then.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into the maintenance records.

8 lug wheels or 6? 8 would be HD and will probably have 4.10's. If engine is in good condition will easily out pull any 350 gasser, more like a 454 with double the fuel economy. These engines do require a little shadetree wrenching however because there aren't a lot of shops out there with mechanics that are in the know, so people usually get gouged on repairs. Start the engine and listen for any odd sounds, let it warm up and then remove oil filler cap and look for excessive blow by. A healthy engine will have very little blow by, a lot of blow by and I would pass, because the mileage might be fraudulent.

Yeah I was suspecious(and still am) about the mileage except this is one of those extra clean vehicles. I mean it is straight and clean in and out.

I looked and the OD digits are perfectly in-line. The screws for the cluster and intstument panel are not marred at all. I don't think they have ever been screwed on. If someone ran it back they did a dang good job of covering their tracks and left not a trace.

The bed isn't even scratched up. Under the hood is extremely clean. No oil leaks(well you know not dripping) Ran my fingers on all body edges, it's a factory paint job and still look great. The interior is as good as you'll see for a 94 chevy, very nice and well maintained.

New tires, good breaks, 2 new batteries, AC is cold, all electrnics work, all power, Glass is perfect, body is as good all you find except for some minor damage). recently added brake controller, runs excellent, shifts perfectly.

The tranny fluid is not new. It's been in it a while but looks and smells fine.

I am trying to find something wrong with the truck and I can't. The only thing is

A. Is there a major mechanical problem that I can't see.

B. Should I run like heck from a 1994 6.5 Turbo Diesel...period?

go to the FAQ sticky several post there what to look for in Diesel buying, also as KNKREB said in another thread similar question, look at several posts from last month, this has been hot topic, will require some homework on your part doing searches, there is no simple yes or no to decide which is best for you.

Come to a 6.5 enthusiasts forum asking if we think a 6.5 is worth owning Hmmnn Yes would be the consensus here. It's like any other vehicle with it's own pluses and minuses, once you get one we can help you work out the minuses.

Also check the RPO FAQ list so you will know what else is on the truck to help for your decision.
