Went 12.859@109.44mph with 2.194 60ft on my completely stock trany. With just a Trans go JR, ATS pump kit, SC 1056, and the original stock clutchs I have a personal best of 11.65@115mph.

You have a white single cab! What else would you expect??? That is the best duramax ever made. I will be needing your dyno soon to dial this junker in for the 50k race. Thanks Jeff

Mark that is a wicked time. Awesome job on that.
What hp were you running at the time?

Micheal Tomac
01-05-2011, 10:29 AM
13.5@99 mph with a 1.87 sixty foot in 4th gear

02 RCLB @ 6500# the truck is stock with just a tune, K&N intake, flowmaster muffler & 285 BFG AT's

The tune wasn't very big (no smoke) and I didn't clamp the rear springs or lower the torsen bars. I think I can get a 13.0 out of it with a bigger tune and a better 60'

My 03 would limp with a six gun, trap speed only about 90-92.

I was 550-585hp at that time I think. I really miss the way it was setup then for daily driving because it was a blast! Not that it isn't now with the twins and all but it was like driving a supercharged vette.

Jeff, I know...what was I thinking, lol.;)

Thanks Jeff If I tried that with my stock Alli / reg. cab it would costtttt meee $5 thou-thou-thousand buckkkks to fix it. My luck that's all. Maybe that's how Ron Wight would describe it, Blue Collar Comedy guy. No luck at all on trying that stuff for me. Trucks been great but that is beyond luck.

My question is how long would a stock transmission hold up running these numbers, turning the tunes down to run on the street? I know the allison is a great transmission but are these numbers put down on borrowed time, knowing the transmission is going to be built soon? I'd like to try my hand at drag racing maybe once or twice this summer and I want to build the tranny but funds are low at the moment. Would a day or two at the track kill the tranny? I have a ppe standard, would it be best to keep the tune at or near +100 hp say level 2 or 3?

I'd say a lot of these numbers are made on borrowed time. Your rig is a 5 speed, and if you're going to do damage it'll be on the 4-5 shift. Keep it on level 3 and back off a bit for the 4-5 shift and go have fun. Be sure to drop your T-bars so you don't use up your funds fixing the front end in the meantime.
You could always try it in 2wd if you just wanted to give it a shot to see what its all about, but the fun with these things is the launch if you ask me.

Yeah I'm working on gathering up the parts so I can play more in the future, but I wanted to know what I could do in the meantime. I've got to see some of the guys on this site pull/drag race and I wanna join in on the fun. Just wanted to know what I could do in the meantime. Sorry if I hijacked the thread in any way.

Be careful with the PPE on level 4, a friend of mine had an 05 and limped his trans on the second run on level 4.

lock out 5th gear OD and make sure your tuning fuels to 4500 rpm

no problems with the stock engine revving out that far?

Micheal Tomac
01-14-2011, 10:52 AM
I'm trapping 99 mph at 4000 rpm right now. There are lots of stock duramax pulling trucks that are spinning 4000 - 4500 rpm. The motor will handle up to 4500 without problems.

Briggs0130
01-14-2011, 11:24 AM
Ok, that's what I thought but figured it'd be safer to ask then assume something. what level on the ppe would you suggest running? Man all this talk makes me wish it was warm enough to go somewhere and try it out.

Brigg why not take your truck and PPE to a dyno and run baseline and levels you want to use to get some numbers? During your trek make some calls to builders and ask if those stock push rods will bend at like 4k rpm on that yr. Valves will start to float up before 4500 on others not but it can be so think it over and read about it. A good dyno session is an eye opener. Fun too. Good luck.

I originally slapped on a probably 400-450 rwhp tune 3 years/30k miles ago and thought it would never live, but now with a big turbo and bigger tuning she's still hanging on. i'm always easy with her on the street and i never use overdrive. spin her to 4500rpm and you can do 105+ in 4th and about 80 in 3rd, I never use a gear higher then i need to. some get lucky, some dont.

on the old set up i ran a consistent 8.9 in the 1/8th with a 2.2 60'

Might look up at about what RPM the push rods bend with a stock top end. 4200 up has bent them racing in some logging look backs with twin turbos and big tune of course but the drive pressure is increased with addons meant to make fast power increases. SoCal's heads are engineered to withstand most race effects from threads on the top end weak places stock shows at certain power levels. Then the head studs are needed next. Just moves down to bottom end parts from that which tells us to build the motor for our power levels we choose to bo into the 10 sec. zone that seems to be the wanted area.

ALL stock: trans, turbo, daily drivers

I really hope to be on that list soon. I think there would be a lot of people shooting to make the top ten. It would definitely be a cool achievement.

Stock tuning too? I guess high 14's. Other guys here will be more accurate than me though.

I think mid to low 15's if all stock, 88 mph. Unless it is 50 degrees out.

Sweet, so a tuner will certainly destroy a Ford Raptor. Cause that's about as fast as they are, but probably have a higher mph... maybe.

A mild tuner should put it in the mid 14's if you don't roast the tires with all else stock. Mine did even with the 265 tires. If you lowered tire pressure, torsion bars, and clamped the front of the rear springs, and took the excess weight out it could very well run 13's in decent air, all with a mild tune.....now efi.......LOL!

I ran 13.4 @101 the night before I pulled my tranny out to build it. Figured I had nothing to lose. Did not limp or slip, but the clutches were absolutely smoked when I took it apart. Certainly held up better than I thought, but would not have lasted many more passes I would imagine.

Stock converter and clutches with trans go jr 20 passes in the 12.90s and the best 1/8 at 8.09. Same tune for 90,000 miles for a total of 135,000. Gonna see what happens in a couple of weeks cuz I'm just around the corner for a build.
