I am looking at the transfer flow 98 gallon tank (in the bed) and there is quite a large price difference between the aluminum diamond plate and the electoplated aluminized steel. The eigth inch aluminum is about five hundred bucks more than the fourteen guage aluminized steel. I have a bed cover that keeps it out of the sun a rain so how it looks is not that important. Any time I have gone the cheap route, I usually end up getting a bum product. Which type did you get? The aluminum is quite a bit lighter. Would both materials have the same life expectency? thanks for your insights into this topic.

I have a 30 gallon that gravity feeds into my main tank. It's made of steel and has kept up great over about 5 years.

ALL of my aluminum in-bed tanks have cracked at the welds. I use steel only any more.

Steel is much easier to weld repair than aluminum, especially once diesel gets in the pores.

When I say "my tanks", mine are all L-shaped tanks for equipment refueling. I don't have any tied to the vehicle's fuel supply.

I've had the alum transfer flow 50gal tank in my truck for about 4 years now. No cracks, no problems. For me, the decision to go with the alum tank was based on the weight. With the trailer, the hitch, the extra fuel, I was not wanting to put any more dead weight in the bed.

Empty or full tank, isn't the weight of the tank nominal once either is topped off?;)
