when you guys lower your t-bars for racing do you do it at the track and then turn them back up to drive home or do you lower them before, get the front end alligned and then go to the track?

Sometimes I drop at the track and raise em back up for the ride home although I at IRP this year I drove around that weekend with em droped. No need for alighnment ect.

you shouldnt have to do a alignment

As long as you count the turns down and then when done put the same turns back up you will not need an alignment. Lowering the torsion bars decreases the camber angle, toe will change some.

I just lower mine at home because I have an impact gun there. I need some new bolts because of the number of times I'ved raised and lowered. Never had an alignment, tire wear still looks good and seems to track fine.

Its really not a good idea to just crank away. Hate to sound like your mom Rob but there are stories of people almost eating adjusting bolts ect. At least use a jack and raise the front end all the way off the ground and use some anti sieze. JMO

I think someone here even posted about having an adjuster shooting out at em.......

Thanks Rat, didn't know you cared:hug: I do jack up the front until the tires are off the ground, forgot to mention that part. Seems like the bolts threads are made for a very tight fit, I guess to help so the bolts don't move on there own. After about a dozen times the threads don't look so good.

I've cranked mine out with a small cresent before when I lost my damn 18M snapon wrench at the track  I use plenty of anti sieze though. With the pressure off the bars I can spin my bolts in and out by hand, there is no interference on the thread themselvs, the pressure of the key squashing down holds em from spinning and makes threading in and out difficult.

Hey Rat-

Help me out....how far can they be turned down? I went to a test pull last week and turned them down one turn and the a-arm bumpers were just starting to be squished, maybe 1/4". The nose of the truck did not look low enough at all, and I can't remember how far down is all the way down. Do the screws come all the way out?

I pull them all the way out at the track and put the screws in my tool box, actually there is quite a bit were they arnt doing anything anymore. Once you can unscrew em by hand they arnt doing anything, you could leave em in and the bars be all the way down but I just dont want to lose one at 1/2 track.....

Yeah, it sucks when you lose your nuts (or bolts)

'Cause then you're screwed....

How true ...I managed to snap a T-bolt in 2 pieces last weekend. Threads where galled bad. This was with the truck on jack and cranking back down. Found a similar bolt at a Napa on a Sunday to get me by for a day ...have since ordered a couple extra OEM bolts. I did crank my bars up/down a few times a few years ago with load on the front end ...I'm sure that's what trashed the threads. Lots of pressure on them bolts!
