alright, i got a problem that i havent been able to track down. my 2 rear brakelights are out. not weird in itself but i will continue. the 3rd one works (rules out fuses and switch). i found 2 fuses for brake lights (drivers side of dash fuse box and underhood one), both are good. the brake light lead in the trailer harness works too. both turn signals work and both bulbs are good. checked the brake light pins in the sockets with a meter and no voltage. both went out at same time. i would think there is only one wire running from the cab back to the junction box under the bed and then one running to each taillight and one to the trailer harness. of course, since i havent been able to find a repair manual for the new style trucks yet i dont have a wiring diagram to confirm this. any ideas??? the next stop is the dealer unfortunately...

i would suspect fuses myself, check them again. your cab high brakelight is on a separate fuse, driver side panel under CHMSL.

Try pushing the hazard switch on and off a few times and see if that solves it. Also make sure the hazard switch is off and not on and the hazard fuse isn't burnt. If not, it is probably something in the steering column or the turn signal switch itself.

Common problem with GM turn signal switches. Have someone watch your brakes lights, then step on pedal and gently wiggle turn signal switch. If brake lights flicker, you found your problem. :exactly:

so yall think its a turn signal problem even though those work fine??

if the 3rd brake light is on that CHMSL fuse, what would the rear ones be under?

thanks guys! my freaking dealer hasnt had an opening in 2 weeks for me. guess they are living large with all this business.

Actually now that I think about it, it pretty much has to be the turn signal control module in the dash. It is basically a fancy turn signal flasher but it also handles the brake light circuit and the trailer circuit. It's just about the only thing that could be wrong other then wiring.

My old (1998)chevy did the same thing and all it was is the ground strap hooked to the frame was dirty.

I thought the Helms manuals stopped putting the wiring diagrams in the manuals?

this same thing happened to my 03, and i searched all over the place, fuses and leads and everything. eventually had the bright idea to check the bulbs, both were burnt out! i guess when one goes its easier for the other one to. but simple problem for me.

Excellent advice. We quite often overlook the simplest things!
