Im more of a chevy guy and want to find a cheeper truck to convert to veggie oil. Im looking for a 6.2 chevy but have came across a few fords with 6.9L, I dont know much about fords but I thinks its made by IH. Is this engine junk? Would a 6.2 be better? I want something reliable but not way expensive if I have trouble with it. I wont be pulling heavy loads or anythig just a gass saver is mostly what I want. I would love to hear what you guys think about this and thanks for your help.
The old 6.9 and 7.3s are great engines. Just make sure you keep the coolant flushed at least once a year, minimum, because they will suffer cavitation problems if the additive wears out. Ford offers an additive package for the coolant, which should be added at 6 months. I am also overkill on maintenance, you'd probably be fine with every 2 years. Otherwise, they are like the 6.2 except bigger and brawnier. Glowplugs can sometimes be an issue, just like the 6.2s.

Navistar made the old 6.9/7.3s, they used to be owned by or they owned IH, I forget now, but some will say Navistar some International, same thing.
The fuel system is considerably different and may be a 'better' system than the 6.2s have for longevity, definitely more power and I think more suitable for WVO/SVO.
The fuel supply/filtration/return system is nice, fuel is bled from the filterbase constantly for consistent supply pressures and allows fuel multiple passes through the filter. The good thing for WVO guys is the extra circulation will help keep your fuel warm. The return passes over all 8 injectors, which of course will be hot and will help warm the fuel. I think the pumps stanadyne made for Fords are 'better' than they ones Chevy ordered. They are also gear driven which makes timing the pump a snap, line to line and thats it. The pump/injectors are a breeze to replace and there's no wimpy little return lines to fall off (5/16" on 7.3 vs 1/8" on 6.2).
bottom line, the 6.9 is way better engine than the 6.2

The cummins is a good engine... but the problem is it is surrounded by dodge. I would go with a 96 or 97 power stroke. you get a reliable engine with more power and a decent body.

I have a 92 with a 7.3. Zero issues. No PMD,Computer,Wastegate,Overheating,Smoking,Blowing head gaskets,Cracking heads etc. My 6.5 is dead right now so I am driving the Ford again. I forgot how simple and reliable the old ford IDI's were.
More powerful than a 6.2
