The time has come for me to buy a programmer for my 05 gmc duramax. I'm looking for better fuel mileage and more horsepower. Any recommendations?

This topic has never been posted before. It might be hard to find your answer after doing a search. There's probably 600 posts with the same title.

decide your needs, what exactly you want, then read the stickies at the top..we spent a lot of time getting that info for everyone.

Why? Because I told you to search for something that has already been asked god knows how many times? I can't stand people who talk shit on the internet. Go get a bully dog and stack it with a predator and have fun. I refuse to lower myself to a pissing match with someone on the internet, especially someone with all of 3 posts. Good luck with your programming decision.

i have spent a lot of time reading the programmer posts, my conclusion is that there are people that like most of the different programmers, but you get what you pay for. People do get a little testy when anybody new brings up this subject. Reading the old threads can be very confusing because everybody has a different opinion.

I personally have had great luck with PPE tuners. The new Edge Evolution CS/CTS units are good too. I like the fact they offer gauges/monitoring built in. I have always ran PPE tuners till now with a-pillar gauges since I like the look of a-pillar gauges. I have 3 PPE standard xcellerator tuners for sale that are used take offs from one of my or my dad's 6 duramaxs. I used to have an 04.5 LLY that I had a 6" lift on with 35s and 20s. I could get 22 mpg with the truck on the interestate running 65-70 with the PPE on level 2. I can get you any tuner you would like. I also have several customers running the new Edge units now with great luck. EFI Live is the best option but is more involved than a standard handheld "box" tuner. You have an unlimited options with EFI Live. For your needs, I would personally consider the PPE or Edge Evolution CS/CTS units. Let me know if I can help you out with any new or used tuner or anything else you might need for your truck.

How much are you asking for one of those PPE's?

KJSMAN6 - If you don't have anything positive to ad to a posting don't respond to the question. It is that simple.

Best thing to do would be make a list of what you honestly want to get out of it. Consider budget, truck use, supporting mods, and where you are willing to settle. From there you can search here and even google and other sites if need be to find what you think might fit your critera. It's alot of reading and time but you will learn alot about what is out there. It's alot easier to narrow your options if you know what you want to do now and later down the road. Even after all that you'll buy one and start looking at the others thinking they might work better. For my truck I wanted a small boost in hp and mileage, wanted to adjust for tire size, and wanted something that would clear codes. I don't need big hp and won't build my trans earlier than I should have to cause I want to play. My truck is my job so it's not smart to dump a ton of money into mods. I decided on a used predator. I hate the way it shifts sometimes but I only spent 100 bucks on it and got better mileage and adjusted my speedo. I can keep it on the lower settings and not limp my trans. Not right for everyone but it gets the job done at a reasonable compromise to for me. I find it easier to search for days than to ask because I can take everything I learn and apply it to my truck and needs. Without the leg work I have to depend on someone else to tell me what's best for me and that's to close to socialism for my comfort. Good luck and happy hunting
