I hope you folks can help. I took a break from my Diesel and changed the intake gaskets on my 97 Yukon, Vortec 350. I also changed the Distributor. I made sure the rotor pointed to the stamped 8 while at #1 TDC. It appears to be timed, I've quadruple checked. Fuel pressure is near 60 psi. It cranks very well, but will not start. Any takers?

Why did you change the distributer? and is the old one still in working condition? If it is, drop it in and see if it fires off, then you know your new dist. is bad.

Other than that, check to make sure the crank sensor is plugged in (I usually unplug the ps connector, crank sensor and ground so I can remove the wires for easier access up top) and all other sensors you unplugged.

I changed the distributor because the old one has 240k on it. It was pretty worn. I as well disconnected that entire harness. I will check the connections and try the old dist. I guess. Thank you for your input.

Did you do the cap and rotor while you had it apart? I've seen those funky caps crossfire internally and cause a no start.

I had a pump that would give 60 lbs at first but not hold that pressure which caused a no start condition.

I figured it out. I made a couple stupid mistakes. Maybe somehow others will benefit from my embarassment.
1. I installed the distibutor slightly off due to a misalignment with the slot on the oil pump. I'm sure I bumped it with the magnet while searching for the bolt I dropped down there, UGH! (I lowered the oil pan to finally get it out - nightmare!)
2. Then I was using the exhaust stroke on #1 to reference TDC. This forced me to pull the distributor and reinstall it 180 off.
I got more gray hair now as a result of my own stupidity. I guess I was simply working too fast. There is always time to redo it, but never enough time to do it right the first time. Thanks a lot for your help.

Well I can see how you would have done that. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me in that same situation.

Thanks for explaining...Maybe someone else can use this to their advantage.
