The Delco batteries have been bad for leaks.

Do a search of "leaking battery" and you will see plenty of complaints.

I got a new one at the dealer for my wifes SUV leaky battery and one of mine replaced because it was just bad.

Switched to yellow top Optimas and no problems now.

Good Luck

Like Diesel Dragon said, there's lots of complaints about leaks. You're lucky you caught it before it rusted out your battery tray.
The batteries are original in my "02". Truck always started fine, and still no leaks, but I probably will replace them with Optima Red Tops before winter. Don't want to push my luck too much further.
As for the voltage regulator question, the alternator output is controlled by the ECM.

They are covered under the 36K warranty if you are still under the mileage. I had the dealer replace one on my '01 last year driver's right front. They broke the window washer bottle installing the darn battery. Had to wait for the washer bottle part.

Good luck

yea mine started leaking a few weeks back, went ahead and upgraded to the red top. Best battery ever made IMO, in my old truck I ran a 2000watt stereo on a yellow top and could leave my truck off for a long time without worrying about starting it back. I might be wrong but I believe optima has a lifetime warranty

Optima batteries have warranties like other batteries. Believe red top is replaced free for for first 1-2 years and then prorated out to 84 mobths and I think the yellow top is prorated out to 48 months. I was at a parts house the other day and the store had two yellow tops setting there that were traded in, out of warranty. They came out of a bass boat so they probaly saw a lot of use.
