Hi guys,
I am having a new Flowmaster downpipe and crossover installed tomorrow. When I save up enough I would like to replace the rest of the exhaust system. Most of the kits I have seen always include the downpipe. Do you know if I can purchase a partial kit without a downpipe? Will I need to cut the flange off the flowmaster to get the downpipe to connect properly to a full aftermarket system?
Sincerely,
Rob :)

Turbo T,
Are you going to keep the CAT (cleaned out or no CAT at all)? If you keeping the CAT cleaned out then I would leave the flange bolt the cat back up and have the shop weld new pipe after the cat. If you are doing a way with the cat then I would just cut the flange off and weld the pipe from there back. I can't think of any other reason for keep the flange but to bolt the cat back to it. Maybe I'm missing something?
BTW as far as the saving up money part why not put the down pipe and cross-over on yourself. I installed my and it was very very easy. 7/16 deep socket on the turbo clamp just losen it, then you unbolt the cat there is enough wiggle room move it out of the way. then take the clamp off the turbo, downpipe will come out from the bottom of the truck, new goes inthe same way. Took me about 1hr by myself. Cross over you can just look it and tell how to take it off. Any ways just my thoughts...

I too changed my own downpipe...VERY simple job...maybe 30 minutes worth of work for me. The crossover, however, I left the old one in...it's not rusted out nor did it get beat all to he** like the downpipe did. If you are getting rid of the cat...I agree, cut the flange off and weld a straight pipe onto it...I used 4" but would recommend using 3 1/2, as I had clearence issues...3 1/2 inch pipe, a free flowing muffler, and maybe have an exhaust shop put a bend or 2 so it exits where you want it to. I've found that aftermarket kits are too pricey...I did mine for about $90 plus the cost of the downpipe.

If you're really cheap (like me) you'll get a shop to make a pipe and then take it home and bolt it on. Cost me $25 for everything after the downpipe. If you want 3 1/2" or 4" I'd call around, not as popular a size.

Oh yea, buddy of my told me a shop by him would do the downpipe and 3" (no muffle however) pipe all the way out for $165. Of course this after I bought my 4" kit.

$25 for everything or just to bend the pipe?? 10 feet of 4" pipe cost me something like 75 or 80. The best place to find pipe that big is a big truck or tractor parts place...I called eveyone in the phonebook and they were the only ones who stocked it. I guess I shouldn't have tried to get it on new years' eve!!!
