Is this something that I could do myself? My truck is a 2003 Dmax/ZF6, G80 rear. I'm moderately mechanically inclined. MODERATELY, not what I would consider good, and not completely useless:D . I can do normal stuff, like brakes and...brakes.:p: Oh and shocks on my fiances car. Huh, that's all I've ever needed to do on my cars!!! Besides the float on my Cutlass, oh, and the heater core. That damn bolt in the box ticked me off. Thank the lord for extensions!!

Is this something I could do as a weekend job, and if so, what kind of tools would I need, is there anything special required? Or would I just be screwing around messing stuff up? I suppose a good shop manual would be in the works here too. :D

Have a good one!!

The most difficult time I had was trying to get the right parts from the dealer. Make sure the genius behind the counter brings out an axle shaft seal, not a pinion seal. You need a few different metric sockets, I think it was 19mm, 21mm, and maybe a 24mm. You need a couple big torx sockets tool. Either a T55 or a T60. Pull off the wheel. Remove the bolts that hold the axle shaft in place (these are the 8 bolts on the hub). Pull the axle shaft out. Do what you have to do to remove the caliper from the rotor. Remove rotor. A "special" tool is required to remove the axle nut. Snap On wanted 75 dollars or so. I just bought a 4wd 6 tooth hub tool at Oreillys. I cleaned up the teeth with a grinder and it fit fine. There is a snap ring you need to remove from the spindle. Then the lock key comes out. Place the tool on the axle nut and remove it. The hub will come off with a little pressure. Pull the old seal out, gently press the new one in. To install the hub, set it back on the spindle. Torque the nut to 52 ft lbs while rotating the hub in the opposite direction. Then release the nut and tighten finger tight. Everything else is just opposite of removal.
