: High Idle Used To Work, Now Broken

Hi guys,

I installed the high idle feature on my truck over a year ago and loved it, but decided that the RPM settings were less than ideal. Took it into a GM dealership and after the oil was changed, asked them to play with the PTO RPM's. It took the mechanic a while to figure how how to do it, but he got the #'s in there that I wanted.

The problem is that now I have no high idle at all. Instead of going to the RPM (either for the set or resume), the idle "blips", the battery light on the dash flashes, and the engine returns back to regular idle. I disconnected the truck's batteries for a couple hours hoping to reset things but that hasn't helped either. Ideas?

Thanks,

I'd make sure that you have no loose connections and specifically make sure the pin is inserted into the ECM all the way. You must have a bad connection somewhere...

Rob,
Did you ever figure out your high idle? I am in the same situation right now.

Did you have an aftermarket locked ECM that you tried to change the High Idle settings on? That would explain why it doesn't work now.

I had the one that came with my truck since new. It doesn't work now because the service manager and I tried to change the settings with the tech 2 and won't let us return to the original settings found on the tech 2, so now nothing works.

Addendum: problem fixed. Needed to change some of the PTO settings as explained on another thread here.
