: 03' and 04' lb7 injectors
fast03 08-08-2005, 03:58 PM I know all are just worn out from looking at all the injector posts. I know I am! I think it would be good to hear from all who's 03'and 04's are not doing well. I am working on my second set of injectors in 60K. I spoke with a couple of dealers and they both think the 03'and 04's will eventually be included in the "special Policy" that 01's and 02's get. I don't believe that! I may go for a buy back. If we see enough interest and get together to contact the NHTSA. we may get included in the "special Policy" so lets see how many posts we can get on this thread with with only 03'and 04' owners responding with: #failures and Mileages only. Thanks all
Timberwolf530 08-08-2005, 04:11 PM 1 replaced by previous owner at 45000 mi as noted on the service records.
dieseldan723 08-08-2005, 04:31 PM All 8 replaced at 42,500
fast03 08-08-2005, 04:44 PM thanks for getting this started guys. i'll try to add these up eventually like that other thread did but with only the 03's and 04's
RonJT 08-08-2005, 04:46 PM Well I think you can add me to the list...but not just yet.
I got the dreaded white smoke at idle on Sunday.
Truck is a 04 LB7 built in 03 Oct and has 57K miles.
Scotty Seelen 08-08-2005, 04:48 PM I think GM will eventually have to include all trucks up until the new motor coming out after the 1st of the year in 2006 in this 200K warranty. Isn't GM using the same injectors since 2001?
habanero 08-08-2005, 04:57 PM thanks for getting this started guys. i'll try to add these up eventually like that other thread did but with only the 03's and 04's
I gave the breakdown by year for the other thread. Doing it for another thread is wasting time.

39,000 Hard Starting When Warmed Up, Pinging, Ticking Noise, Decrease Power When Towing And Going To Dealer Tomorrow And Hope They Have Injectors In Stock.

sorry not trying to step on anyone or waste space. guess i didn't catch that breakdown in your survey. i particularly was interested in the later lb7. i still would like to get more info from anyone willing to submit. whatever we get is all good for ammo against chevy for a recall or the special policy.
maxinDixon 08-08-2005, 09:37 PM 55000 miles on my June 03 built 04 Dmax and still going great.

Habanero,
You probably could have typed in the helpful info faster than you typed in the above statement...............;)
locknload 08-09-2005, 12:20 AM how about a link to the stats?
Hoppie 08-09-2005, 09:33 AM 04 47000 miles still running great!
fast03 08-09-2005, 04:29 PM sorry all, I just got some news over the phone from my dealer. he said the 03' and 04 trucks are now officially covered by the "special policy" that the 01 and 02 trucks have. coooool!!!!. I guess this thread can stop now. I will be picking up the truck later today and will see the tsb with my own eyes. I'll let you know
Scotty Seelen 08-09-2005, 04:32 PM As expected. See my previous post.
fast03 08-09-2005, 04:38 PM As expected. See my previous post.
yeah thats what I thought also, but didn't want to put all my eggs in that basket until I saw it in writing. My dealer always said they would make sure I was covered after the 100k even if gm didn't extend the ploicy to us, but even then that goodwill would have depended on whether or not my guys still work there. anyway this makes me feel better and I am sure many other too
Elowe65 08-09-2005, 04:59 PM 03 (late 02 build date) lb7 here, all 8 inj, pump and FPR replaced at 56K.
Injectors and pump show as reman units on paper work.
idougal 08-09-2005, 06:50 PM 3 replaced at 25,000; all 8 replaced @ 35,000; 4 being replaced @ 120,000
Roegs 08-09-2005, 10:45 PM You guys sure worry about injectors alot. Why not just drive the truck and enjoy it? If they go bad, they go bad. An additional filter, and running additive is about all you can do to help prevent it, and even that gives no promises. Nobody with an '03 or has had to pay out of their pocket that I know of. Sorry, but I think this issue has been beat to death.

post tsb if you have it!
fast03 08-11-2005, 07:40 PM post tsb if you have it!
I don't, the service manager read the new bulletin incorrectly. although he stats it is the first step toward finalizing the special policy for the 03 and 04 trucks. basically the bulletin states to diagnose 03,04 trucks as 01 and 02 trucks are diagnosed. my guy tells me that gm is building stock of injectors and funds before the policy can be applied. he says don't worry.by the way just got my truck back and it got all 8 and they are rebuilds. no big deal to me. actually the truck runs better than ever. i'll still keep the site posted if anymore updates
Jonathan G 08-11-2005, 08:58 PM all 8 replaced at 94,000
Lightning 08-11-2005, 09:27 PM I brought mine in this week. White smoke, excessive smoke under acceleration, etc... They are replacing all 8, no questions asked. They would not spring for the rent-a-car though.
srode 08-11-2005, 09:32 PM 04 replaced 2 @ 11,000 miles
rmarchand 08-12-2005, 09:46 AM 65,000 miles on an 03, no failures
RVGIRL 08-12-2005, 03:23 PM ok, ALL 8 INJECTORS ARE BEING REPLACED AS WE "SPEAK" AT 39,000 MILES AND I COMPLAINED TWICE BEFORE ABOUT A TICKING NOISE ESPECIALLY WHEN UNDER LOAD AND DECREASED MILIAGE WITH OCCASIONAL GREAT MILAGE, ONCE A 28,000 AND ONCE JUST BEFORE 36,000 MILES. I do not think they are doing all 8 if they were not necessary. They said something about return lines being replaced as well.
I read elsewhere here that there may be a problem with the fuel filters and a recall. Anyone know about that since I told them they can do an oil change and filter and fuel filter change(#3 in 39,000 miles)
Should I look at anything to make sure things are done correctly? What to look for so far as the injectors being done right. I never trust these guys but they gave me no trouble about the injectors. I went to another more local dealership with same problem and they started with me about well maybe it is not the drive train etc. YA! I left. these guys are ok.
redco97 08-12-2005, 03:46 PM Replaced all 8 at 45k
ring3 08-12-2005, 11:24 PM 2003, 33500k, no problems.
gmccall 08-17-2005, 09:06 AM 62,000 and no problems on my 02
RVGIRL 08-17-2005, 09:54 AM I am going to pick up the truck today. I am concerned because we are pulling a fifthwheel Friday 500 miles and I do not want to get stuck in East Jippipy with something wrong.
What do I know look for to make sure the job was done correctly and that oil is not leaking or whatever now can happen now that they replaced the injectors with REMANUFACTURED injectors. I thought they were putting in injectors with a different design and O rings in different place etc. What is up with that? Are they really allowed to put in remanufactured injectors of the same design?????

Lets see if you feel the same when your injectors take a crap?
Replaced all 8 at 60,000 miles
I will believe the additional Warranty when I see it in writing.
SteelOne 10-05-2005, 09:07 PM My 2003 2500 HD had all 8 replaced at 50,000 miles. $100.00 deductable. Also Called Customer Care tonight warranty is not extended from 100,000 to 200,000 on mine.
C.A.P 10-05-2005, 11:23 PM Not The Dreded "i" Word Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still Riding Hard And Living In Fear!
BIGMoe 10-06-2005, 12:32 AM Mine goes in Monday for 3 injectors. I have learned on the 03's they will only replace the ones that show bad. I asked service manager about what I had heard about replacing all 8. He said that was only on the 01's & 02's. Eric (gmdieseltech) confirmed that.
deadfurrow 10-06-2005, 01:00 AM Mine goes in Monday for 3 injectors. I have learned on the 03's they will only replace the ones that show bad. I asked service manager about what I had heard about replacing all 8. He said that was only on the 01's & 02's. Eric (gmdieseltech) confirmed that.
I had the "smoke at idle" problem. The first dealer I went to replaced 1 injector & charged me the $100 deductable, but it didn't help the problem. So I went to another dealership a few weeks later. They replaced all 8 with no deductable. The Tech even told me that GM recommended they replace all 8, & this was in late August, so I don't think it's just for 01's & 02's. Needless to say, no more "smoke at idle".:thumb:
.
aquanuts 10-06-2005, 10:17 AM 03 3500. All 8 replaced at 31,000 and 35,000. All ok until 115,000. Started smoking at idle. Replaced 2 of them. Still smoked. Replaced one more at 120,000. Still smokes a little at idle. Going back to dealer today!!
phazar 10-06-2005, 04:00 PM steelone, all 01-04 have been extended to 200 000. unless what we read is untrue?
Scotty Seelen 10-06-2005, 04:05 PM Soon to be followed by LLY motors up to the LBZ motor. Eventually, ALL Duramax motors from 2001 LB7's to 2006 LLY's will be included. See post #6 and #20.
JEBar 10-06-2005, 04:18 PM early '02 3500 with '01 injectors ... may well not start when I get out the the parking lot after work but as of right now 101,000+ miles without any engine/transmission issues of any type
Jim
jugdish35 10-06-2005, 05:04 PM 03 3500 2 bad injectors at 31000 in may , dealer replaced all 8 no questions asked, and no deductible. runs strong...):h
speedracer 10-06-2005, 05:17 PM Good to see GM step up to the plate, with this policy and the better fuel filter, now if they could nail this problem once and for all with the newer trucks they could get past this episode. I get a kick out of the people who say, "just drive your truck and don't worry", seems they never had a 12,000 lb 5th wheel behind them driving somewhere in the sticks.
madwire 10-06-2005, 05:36 PM 03 Chevy Lb7 All 8 Replaced At 80,000 Mi. TRUCK WAS HARD TO START.
Wolford 10-06-2005, 06:16 PM I have Had plenty of weight behind mine and I still drive it and dont worry about. The subject has been beat to death. These trucks are not perfect and things on them are going to F up, GM in no way is responsible for that. All things are Finite and that is that.
Brake_Torq 10-06-2005, 08:59 PM Sure, all things are finite, and nothing lasts forever, but a diesel with injectors that have trouble even lasting 100,000 miles is not just normal wearing out, its RIDICULOUS.
If they won't last that long, its a design problem, and that IS GM's, or Isuzu's, or somebody's fault. If it only cost 2$ to replace them, it would be different, but working on the fuel system in a diesel is big money. If you have to replace injectors out of pocket, you would have been better served by a gas engine. It would have lasted a lot longer than the original injectors, for a lot less in maintenance.
If they are extending the coverage for '03s, I haven't got any notice of it yet. But I did get a recall letter last week that says to go in and get my stock fuel filter replaced for free with an improved one.
Started getting very hard starting at 34,000 Clyde replaced all 8, no charge. It's been running smooth and strong ever since.
'Cept for the speedo sticking thing, bad passenger side extendable mirror, clunky steering, A/C won't blow cool and a bad rear seal, (all fixed under warranty), no other problems...
SteelOne 10-07-2005, 05:52 AM steelone, all 01-04 have been extended to 200 000. unless what we read is untrue?
NOGO for extended warranty on the 2003. I called GMC Customer Care and gave them my VIN. I was told that I only had a 100,000 mile warranty.
