I'm in the market for a 2007+ Yukon XL/Suburban and a 2006 or 2007 GMC 2500HD w/Duramax. I am confused on the standard factory warranty periods. Some people are telling me that every vehicle 2007 or newer, the standard warranty is 5 year/100,000 miles. But I come across some vehicles that have less than 100K and less than 5 years, and owners say there is no warranty left. Was the 5 year/100K thing an upgrade? I need clarification on the warranties for these years on these vehicles. Thanks.
2007…3/36 base war. 5/100k powertrain war, eng,Trans,t-case,diffs internals(in a nut shell)
2006….3/36 base….5/100k diesel engine war, thats it.
the 07 and newer has a better warranty by far.

So 2006 Duramax will have 5/100k engine warranty but no other powertrain, but 2007's will have whole powertrain?
Warranty periods start at date of purchase, correct?

Correct, with the knowledge that the WHOLE powertrain is NOT covered on the 07+'s, most major internal componets related to eng, diffs, trans, t-case are:)
