I sold my D-max so I am looking for another truck. Found a 2001 3500 ext cab 8.1 LS. Will this truck have the Allison 5 speed auto? Just want to make sure before I go look.

Also looking for 2001 RPO code breakdown.

If it is an auto it will be the Allison 5-speed. The SUV's got the 4L80's with 8.1's. GM-Trucks.com has lists of RPO codes on the site.

Looking for an 01-06 8.1 2500 or 3500. GMC or Chevy. Is there a number in the VIN that will tell me wheather it is a 6.0 or 8.1? Lots of ads but most dont say which gas motor they have,

I think I'm right on this but the only difference between the Allison's hooked to a Duramax and ones hooked to the 8.1 is they have different torque converters, other than that identical.

8th didgit in VIN

G = 8.1
U = 6.0
2 = Dmax

Duramax can be 1-LB7 2-LLY D-LBZ or 6-LMM, just fyi.
