So I was driving last night, and my (driver seat) heater was working fine, but the passenger seat kept shutting off with my girlfriend sitting in it...

that has never happened before, including any other time with her in the seat... It would turn on, then shut off in roughly 1 min, and we tried leaving it on all the different levels of power as well as back only & butt and back...

So I was wondering if it would shut off if it doesn't think anyone is in the seat (does it even have a sensor), or should it stay on no matter what? I tried it again this morning (with nobody in the seat) and it shut off just like last night...

It couldn't have let me down at a worse time, she didn't want to take my truck cause it takes so long to heat up, so my response was, "Thats why there are seat heaters..." should have never said that lol

I had the same problem with my drivers seat . I would turn on the driver seat heater and it would immediatly shut off . brought it to the dealer and they said my rear back heating element on the drivers side is no good . so i ordered the replacement heater.. at some cost it was not cheap ..I have the seat out of the truck and am trying to do the replacement now.

The passenger seat heater works fine

I finished the heater on the seat back christmas eve before dinner. I took the seat out, removed the seat bottom from the frame , reached into the seat back seperated the velcro and removed the heating element. I put the new one in and put everything back together. now everything works great! It took me like 2.5 hours.

Dorman makes some real inexpensive solutions. Supposedly their plug is correct for the OEM one. I saw a universal Dorman kit on amazon with both back & bottom panels, switches, wiring for 1 complete seat: $65. I want to do my rear seat bench and put the switches in the console.

Yep same thing happened to my 05 kept shutting off found out the element was bad I pulled it apart to see how easy it was to do and was going to get one but ended up trading the truck in the next day. They are pretty easy to do especially if you have pulled seats apart before
