: What is the bright green fluid coming from firewall vent tube?

This morning I discovered bright green fluid on the gound & front passenger frame rail. Furhter investigation pointed me to a vebt tube coming out of the firewal, located just below the A/C canister on the passenger side.

The fluid seems to only come out when the truck is running. Quite a bit since this is the first day I have seen this activity.

It is definately not rad fluid since mine is pink. This leaking fluid is bright, bright green & does not smell sweet like rad fluid.

What is the fluid & where is it coming from? Why is it leaking out the vent tube in this quantity?

My truck currently has 55,000 hiway miles on it.

Any thoughts........

It's Kryptonite. Your Dmax will be loosing all of it's special power soon.

Sorry I couldn't resist. I am not a tech so I don't get to post any real answers.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Hello,

I am not a automotive tech but I play one at home...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Did you have any air conditioning work done lately? The bright green looks like the dab on leak detector used in place of soap bubbles to check for leaks.

Other than that I am not sure.

What Dave said. The A/C systems have leak detection dye added at the factory now. You have a large leak possibly from the evaporator. Edited by: GMCSID

Leak is coming from the tube sticking out of the firewall, does this mean the leak is somewhere in the cab portion of the A/C?

Strange thing is that the A/C has not been turned on for at least 5 months since the weather here has been below zero or close to ever since.

I dought this would be covered by warranty since the truck already has 55,000 miles. Does anyone know who would do this type of repair beside taking it to a dealer? Would a rad shop or maybe I will have to track down some type of A/C specialist?

Any reccomendations...........

Track down an "A/C specialist". A/C work can be expensive when done right 1st time and very expensive when done wrong.

Would I hurt anything in the A/C system or pump if I wait until summer to look into this repair? Or should I get it looked at asap?

Should I visit the dealership for their opinion before seeking out an A/C specialist? Is there anything the service department could do for me?

I don't think they could even give me a repair quote without charging a hefty price.

Any suggestions on what a dealership could do or if I should even see them first.............

Don't forget that when you turn on the defrost your A/C will come on. Well on second thought, yours shouldn’t come on now because you don’t have any refrigerant in it and the low pressure switch should be keeping the compressor from starting.

You should get it fixed ASAP. With that big of a leak you’re allowing Air/moisture to get into the system. That’s a very bad thing for an A/C system.

Your dealer should have an A/C Tech that can handle the repairs. Any good automotive repair shop should have someone also.

The sooner you get it fixed the better. A/C systems like to be up and running to keep the seals fesh.

Kev the vent tube you're holding in the picture is the condensation drain - this is where the water drains out that you see in the summer when running you're air. These guys are right - it's you're air conditioning and you should probobly get it fixed soon as it does work in conjunction with you're defrost.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

To make the repair necessary to fix your leak,I assume your evaporator core is leaking. The DASH needs to be removed! This is no small task and I would suggest taking it to the dealer.IMO.

I will keep everyone posted. I have an appointment with a A/C specialist on Tuesday. They are used to removing dashes & have worked with the dye thing before. A good friend of mine works there so I know the job will be done right by them taking a little extra time.

I went to the dealership & they said if it is the evaporator core I could expect to fork out at least $1100 minimum for inspection & reapair. NO THANKS!

Lets see what happens Tuesday................Edited by: KevTech

Be sure and ask if GM would help out with the bill. GM will sometimes discount a repair if it looks to be premature, even when out of warrany.
