: Front Door Locks Stiff When Cold
Diesel Wanna Be 12-12-2010, 09:11 PM Anyone had any issues with their front door locks in cold weather?
Hit the unlock button and when I grabbed the handle I thought the door was froze shut.
Tried the back door, and bam, opened right up. That's when I crawled inside and checked the front door locks.
Darn thing was really hard to push either way (lock/unlock).
Did it on both front pass and driver side doors.
Back doors, no issues.
Once the interior warmed up (it's 17F out) the front locks worked just fine.
JD4440 12-12-2010, 09:19 PM I was about to post about this too. Locked myself out of the truck yesterday: used the FOB, started the truck and when my wife went to get in it was locked. I pulled the slider in the door panel and the rod still moves slow so ??
06blackmax 12-12-2010, 09:39 PM I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem. If I hadn't unlocked all four doors I'd have been locked out two different times this week. It's like the slider is so stiff it won't move as freely as the other three do. Not having an issue with any other door but the driver front.
JD4440 12-13-2010, 12:12 AM So far I see to pull the door panel, remove the pull bar from the plastic slides and try it. if it works then lube the sliders, if not it may be the actuator.
Diesel Wanna Be 12-13-2010, 02:09 AM Are the front and rear door actuators the same?
If so, I'll just swap back to front and be done for the winter.
k9duramax 12-13-2010, 07:56 AM Most of the time at the shop the problem is the sliders- we clean them off (most of the time it requires a little brake clean on a rag), make sure they dry good then relube- most of the time we have been using just silicone; the white grease tends to get a little thick and cause problems again- per our experiences anyway....
Hope this helps!!
JD4440 12-13-2010, 07:14 PM 11 this morning. I almost didn't get the door unlocked with the key much less the key fob. Definitely gets worse as it gets colder.

You and me both. I thought I was going to twist the key off. Guess I'll have to stand out there tomorrow and pull the door panel off in the driveway.

I posted in the other thread; Would Amsoil spray grease (red) be appropriate ?

So what your saying is its in the linkage not the lock mechanism itself? Need to go into door anyway and replace window mtr. so that would be a good time to do it.
Chevy_Duramax_Man 12-13-2010, 11:27 PM Silicone spray always does the trick for me!!
Diesel Wanna Be 12-14-2010, 03:29 PM Found part of my issue. Darn rods on both doors had popped out of the tracks, which caused them to bind.
Possibly popped out when I installed the tow mirrors? I dunno.
They work free enough now with the white grease to lock/unlock. At 10F, I was freezin my arse off so I neglected to clean/lube them.
Rebelchevy87 12-16-2010, 09:43 AM My drivers door has been acting up since Monday. We got a nice snow storm on Sunday and it's been in single digits most of the time, so I am thinking maybe ice or something is the culprit. My issue is more with the latch than the lock. Unfortunately, I have to park outdoors, so until it warms up a bit or I visit the family over christmas (heated barn), I am going to just deal with it.
k9duramax 12-16-2010, 02:02 PM Sorry for late reply guys!!!!

Honestly, I don't see where it could hurt to try it. The white grease gets pretty thick and stiff- combine that with some dust/dirt and it gets pretty tacky.

Most of the time, yes (again, in OUR experiences). This is not saying that there is NO WAY that it could be the mechanism, but fairly unlikely.
JD4440 12-16-2010, 07:42 PM Thanks Scott
